Am currently 18 weeks so its not an emergency yet, but am finding that thinking about baby names is one of my favourite past times and DH will not indulge me so here goes:

Girls
Grace (too popular?)
Mia
Niamh (pronounciation issues?)

Middle name would probably be Marie or Kate.

Boys (much harder!)
Eddie (Edward)
Dylan (DH doesnt like but may be able to bring him round!)
Jake (not really a full name?)
Joel (again thinking about pronounciation, I find this name quite hard to say naturally iyswim).

Middle name John or James

Do your worst!

I love Maeve, possibly my favourite name ever.
Grace and Mia are nice.

Not keen on your boys name, I find them a bit boring.

Onion1968 · 12/03/2011 19:21

I like them all except Dylan.

MrClaypole · 12/03/2011 19:22

I love all your boys names!
But, depending on your surname, I'm not sure that Joel or Jake would go with the middle names you have chosen?

Girls names I like Niamh best.

belgo · 12/03/2011 19:23

They are all nice, nothing offensive or difficult about any of them.

samstown · 12/03/2011 19:26

Oh yeah, good point mrclaypole, I think if we went for Joel or Jake we may go for another middle name (forgot to say that). Our surname begins with B.

Grace - lovely, popular for a reason
Mia - OK
Niamh - as you say there could be spelling and pronounciation issues

Eddie (Edward) - like
Dylan - like
Jake - nice as nickname for Jacob. Not sure this goes well with James/John as middle name
Joel - agree about pronounciation "I find this name quite hard to say naturally". Again not sure this goes well with the middle names you have in mind

Grace Marie for a girl, Edward John or Dylan James for a boy :)

mamalovesmojitos · 12/03/2011 20:37

All nice except for the prounciation problem with Joel which would deter me from choosing it.

geordieminx · 12/03/2011 20:41

I like Dylan for a girl.

SilveryMoon · 12/03/2011 20:47

I like Mia and Joel the best out of your list.

I have a Jacob whose middle name is John. It works well for him because his surname is 2 syllables too.
IMO, if you went for a one syllable first name, it's need to be a 2 syllable middle name to balance it out iyswim.

Not that I'm going to have anymore children, but if we did, I have Rachel for a girl and Matthew for a boy. We have a biblical theme going with our ds's names. ds2 also has a biblical name

yama · 12/03/2011 20:51

Love Mia and Niamh (a lot).

Like Dylan and Jake.

Don't hate the others.

MamaVoo · 12/03/2011 20:51

Mia Kate is lovely.

I'd go for Jacob instead of Jake and have Jacob John. Edward James is nice too.

ja9 · 12/03/2011 21:24

Not Dylan.

I have a Joel. Gorgeous name imo. BUT i totally know what you mean about the pronunciation 'Jo-el', 'Jole'. Varies enormously with accents too. Still gorgeous tho'!

cece · 12/03/2011 21:28

Girls
Grace (too popular?) I don't know many Graces, a few yes but not loads
Mia - now I do know loads of them
Niamh (pronounciation issues?)- nice if you are Irish, otherwise no

Middle name would probably be Marie or Kate.

I prefer Kate as a first name tbh

Boys (much harder!)
Eddie (Edward) - like a lot
Dylan (DH doesnt like but may be able to bring him round!) - nice
Jake (not really a full name?) - OK
Joel (again thinking about pronounciation, I find this name quite hard to say naturally iyswim).- I too find it hard to say - also seems a bit too American for my taste

thebeansmum · 12/03/2011 22:15

Love all your boy choices - where I live there are inordinate amounts of Graces Mias and Niamhs (a few with Naeve as the spelling)so not keen on the girls choices. Edward is especially nice and 'grows' well with age - my son knows an Edward who gets Teddy - loooove that, it really suits him!

weimy · 12/03/2011 22:19

Niamh lovely, not sure why spelling etc would be a problem.

plonkerr · 12/03/2011 22:26

I only like (well love really) Edward/Eddie out of your boys names. The others are ok.

Love your girls names. My favourited is Mia. Mia Kate is lovely and Mia Marie is beyond cute!

thenevernever · 12/03/2011 22:34

Lots of Mia's around at the moment.

Not sure about Jake or Joel but Dylan and Edward are nice.

MrsBananaGrabber · 12/03/2011 23:00

Dylan is lovely.

alexaj · 14/03/2011 20:06

I like Mia and Grace. Boys names are really dull though.

MmeLindt · 14/03/2011 20:09

Grace - love

Mia - like

Niamh - only if you live in Ireland or are willing to correct pronunciation.

Eddie - ok

Dylan - ok but a bit common

Jake - ok

Joel - ok

Think that Joel and James not really good with middle names of John or James (presume these are family names).
