We already have a ds Ethan. What are your thoughts on Nathaniel as a sibling with nn Nate rather than Nathan. Are they too similar?

I like both names. Why shorted Nathaniel?

happyinherts · 10/03/2011 20:02

Nathaniel will probably get called Nathe by school friends, but if you can live with that, yes, I think they do go well as brother's names and yes, I like it.

PepsiPopcorn · 10/03/2011 20:15

Honest opinion? Too much of the "than" sound if you use both names, sorry.

pointydog · 10/03/2011 20:17

Too similar.

bamboostalks · 10/03/2011 20:18

Bit too similar sounding to my ear.

agora1 · 10/03/2011 20:22

I think they go well together.

Kaekae · 10/03/2011 20:23

I agree slightly too similar, so I personally wouldn't use.

spidookly · 10/03/2011 20:24

Too similar.

cowboylover · 11/03/2011 22:21

I think it works fine

candleshoe · 11/03/2011 22:23

Nathaniel at DSs school is called Nat! (Gnat - Bzzzzz) Also sounds v. similar to Ethan IMHO!

niccibabe · 12/03/2011 00:59

Like both of them. Nathaniel is a lovely name & goes well with Ethan - I find the 'E' in Ethan more dominant than the 'than'. Nat is the probable shortening at school.

Janus · 12/03/2011 13:34

I think they go really well, I LOVE the name Nate (was a big fan of Six Feet Under though if that means anything to you!). I assume if you use Nate as a nn, others will too??

TheVisitor · 12/03/2011 13:40

Nathaniel is a sterling name. My lad gets called Natty or Nat. I don't like Nate; too americanised for my liking.

Ethan and Nat sounds fine!

Underachieving · 12/03/2011 16:16

Bit similar for my taste.

Onion1968 · 12/03/2011 16:59

Nice but a bit similar

LadyCLC · 13/03/2011 21:00

Both lovely names - does it matter if they are similar??? they are individuals and wont spend the rest of their lives together - they will eventually go off and live their own lives so I dont think it matters in the slightest and I think they sound lovely anyway.

Thanks for all your replys. Opinions are pretty mixed. Will keep it on the list - for now.
