Why are K names considered "chav"? I do not understand one bit!

Katie is chav
Katy is not chav

It's all in the spelling ;)

Can someone give me 'chav' ratings on the following? I don't understand the whole concept of 'chav'

girls: Kizzy, Kaydie, Keira

boys: Kelan, Kerry, Killian, Kye, Kim

It's an interesting question imo, and although I haven't read the whole thread, I wonder if it changing the letter that is considered chav, rather than the letter k itself. Afterall, Katie and Karen are fine. It's doing daft things like replacing established Cs with an unexpected K that seeems to invite the criticism.

Also, I think trends come from America aren't well received in the UK. And it's not just K trends such as Kaden. Even Caitlin/Katelyn has been labelled the ch word on this board (i disagree with that btw) but Caitlin very definitely became popular in the states. Siobhan or Sinead are in theory no different but I don't think they would be at risk of the same... label.

It's just a variant of Katherine (which is my preferred spelling)
I don't like the spelling Cathryn, though.

there's another variant on your Keria/Kira/Ciara names: there's the Italian form Chiara. It's the italian version of Claire.

K names aren't necessarily chavvy, some are though, like every letter of the alphabet!
