In the recent statistics, including the comparison stats for 1998/99 it is possible not only to see the ranking of a name but also the number of babies given the name. I think it is the case that even popular names are used less often as people choose a wider variety (eg 9000 called Chloe at no. 1 in 1999 compared with about 5000 Olivias in 2009). Does anyone know if it is possible to get this data from further back, in the 70s and 80s and earlier? Would be interestiung to see if the popular names were much more dominant then.
