Can I give DS a name similar to my own?

My name is Jo. Can I call DS Joey (nn for Joseph or maybe Joshua), or is this too weird? I have no desire to name the baby after me, but I love Joey for a boy, and have 10 days to go before due date, and am really struggling with boys names.

No.

My friend Jo called her son Joe and she has no problem with it.
I'm Jo and it'd just do my head in thinking ppl were talking to me when they were talking to my kid so Joseph was def struck off the list.
If u dont mind looking up every time someone addresses your kid etc then go for it.
Not weird at all.

Why not? My family is a long list of sons named after their fathers!

Will Smith and his wife Jada have done this - they have called their kids Willow and Jaden...

Why not?
Well technically obviously she can.

IMO, I don't see why you'd choose a name so similar to your own. So in response to 'Can I call DS Joey', No.

I think joey is fine. But when he is older and decides it is too babyish and he wants to be Joe then you will both have the same name, which is not so good imo.

I am Katie and love the name Kitty. I would consider it if it were not for our surname. I agree with Joseph shortened to Joey though.

mopsyflopsy · 28/02/2011 22:17

Your name is Jo.

And you want to call your son Joe (or Joey while he is little).

Unless you want to look up every time someone calls Jo/Joe, it is not a good idea imo.

I was going to say yes but see the problem if he chooses to call himself Joe. Personally I think Joseph is much nicer than Joey as Joey to me sounds like a baby nickname.

Ah, Jojo I have this problem too, I'm a Jo and I LOVE Joseph for a boy, but I don't know if it's too weird. I do know someone else who is a Jo (are we really that 'common' now?!) who called her son Joseph, and it didn't actually seem that bad.

There's certainly worse names we could give!!
