Hi guys.... Just wondered what people thought of the names Arabelle, laila and Milaina??
Me and dh used to love laila but fear its become a little too popular so we were thinking of maybe Arabelle instead but i just don't love it quite as much as i did laila. We also like Milaina pronounced (mi-lane-a)and think its a top runner at the moment.Just wondered what people thought of these names as i don't want to discuss it with people i know as we're keeping the name a secret until our daughter arrives?

Thanks

Laila go with what you like Smile

montylady · 28/02/2011 17:38

I think Milaina is beautiful. I think you should go for it Smile Would you not consider using Arabelle as a middle name to go with it?

reikizen · 28/02/2011 17:42

Are they a bit trying too hard? But lovely. Sorry, I always feel awful putting negative comments but you have asked! Can you imagine standing in the park shouting 'Arabelle!' will you feel a bit of a poncy kids name/posh mum? Don't know, up to you. Sorry, very tired and rambly, you probably would tear the shit out of my children's names too! Grin

I like Miliana, very pretty. Also like Arabella, but Arabelle is too much like arable. Not so keen on Laila, sorry.

RightUpMyRue · 28/02/2011 18:14

Out of those three I choose Laila but not over keen on any of them.

Hedwig3 · 28/02/2011 19:40

Leila is lovely (spelt this way for me)

Arabelle is good too

RitaMorgan · 28/02/2011 19:41

Is Milaina not spelled Milena?

dan1981 · 28/02/2011 19:58

Gosh this naming baby buisness is hard isn't it?!
Milaina definately spelt that way.... i knew one when i was younger and always thought her name was pretty and unique.
think i've been put off Arabelle now...its does sound like arable...lol. it means 'answered prayer' which is why we liked it but maybe we'll use it as a middle name instead.
i loved laila but i just don't want her to be in a class full of layla's, lila's and lola's.
its really hard trying to find a unique name that won't be chavved up in years to come or thats not already been taken by friends.
i appreciate all imputs anyway, thanks

Laila is the best one to me, and I like Milaina too although I prefer the sp Layla and Milena
Don't really like Arabelle, it sounds like Arabella with the end missed off and too frilly imo, also reminds me of Arachnid (spider)

How about some new ideas?

I like Milena but Milaina looks like a made-up spelling to me - a bit like Alyvia or Danyel.

mummypontipine · 28/02/2011 20:45

love arabella less keen on arabelle too agricultural for me have you considered arabella with arabelle as a nn
fwiw are arabella gets many complements on her beautiful name

dan1981 · 28/02/2011 21:03

love Arabella too mummypontipine but i think it sounds silly with our surname....maybe i could talk hubby into changing our surname too..lol.
RitaMorgan - is Milena pronounced mi-lene-a. cos i prefer mi-lane-a.... i like names with 'A' sounds in them like lay-la, mi-lane-a.
hedwig - thanks for suggestions...i like Annabel but we already know one ;-/

I've only ever heard Milena pronounced Mi-lay-na. It's common in central/eastern Europe.

mummypontipine · 28/02/2011 22:24

dan arabella would have been esther but with our surname it sounded like aweather forecast . was sorely tempted to double barell our surname to get round it .

muminthemiddle · 28/02/2011 22:48

I like Milena.

muminthemiddle · 28/02/2011 22:49

Sorry I mean Milaina x

dan1981 · 01/03/2011 08:32

so if i was to call her Milena (pronounced Mi-lay-na) do people not think i'll be subjecting my little girl to a lifetime of correcting people 'no, its mi-lay-na not mi-lee-na)?? i liked Milaina cos its spelt how its pronounced but don't want her to look chaved up like i've made up a name..lol.

I also like the name Alara.... any thoughts??

I have a little Milena at home (people usually pronounce it as Mee-lay-na. haven't heard of Milaina TBH.

Also like your other two names but I think Laila/Layla is really becoming popular. I know 3 little girls with this name.

Helzapoppin · 01/03/2011 09:10

Laila is a lovely name- is it really so popular? The only one I have known was a Norwegian girl at school.

I've got an Arabel and people often compliment her on her name. It's never struck me as especially 'posh'. Only problem is that at just gone two (and a chatty little thing) she can't pronounce it at all ('ab-ell')! Never really thought about the agricultural connotations. We chose Arabel as Arabella/Arabelle sounded too continental (I'm not a xenophobe, just she's got a French middle name and surname) and it's a family name on DH's side.
