I like Max & Phoebe

laosvher · 25/02/2011 10:36

I don't like any of the others, sorry. They all sound like nn's or some sort of cage fighters

JaxTellersOldLady · 25/02/2011 10:38

I like Max and Lexi and Tabitha and Cleo, dont like any of the other boys names (sorry) and the other girls names I think will be quite common in the class room so if you name your daughter Lilly it will end up being Lilly P or whatever your second name is.

brightcopperkettles · 25/02/2011 10:41

I like Max and Seth of the boys and don't mind Tabitha or Phoebe for a girl

BarbieLovesKen · 25/02/2011 10:51

Dexter - hate this (sorry)
Felix - cat/ cat food
Monty - absolutely dreadful
Lennox - absolutely dreadful
Max - ok(ish) sort of. I wouldnt use it but I know a gorgeous little 2 year old Max and ever since I got to know him I find it hard to dislike it as hes adorable. Prior to this though, it was a dog's name to me.
Rex - Dog
Rocco - Beckhams
Seth - ok(ish) I wouldnt use it.

Girls:

Lilly - prefer Lily. Lovely. Very popular, but if this doesnt bother you then absolutely.
Cleo - hmm.. ok.. I think
Daisy - I know a favourite of loads here but I hate it, just much to twee for me and a cow's name!!!
Lexi - dont like it
Izzy - absolutely no way on this earth. Is this a nickname for Isabelle though (which is lovely)
Phoebe - stunning
Tabitha - nice
Scarlet - fabulous

Sorry if I was too blunt Blush

breatheslowly · 25/02/2011 10:53

Boys:

Dexter - I think that is a breed of cattle
Felix - cat food
Monty - cat
Lennox - boxer
Max - ok
Rex - not sure
Rocco - boxer
Seth - sounds a bit lispy

Girls:

Lilly - I think it should be spelt Lily or she will have to spend her life saying "Lilly with 3 Ls"
Cleo - like
Daisy - ok, but possibly a cow
Lexi - Would rather have Alexandra and shorten it - gives her more choices as an adult
Izzy - Again Elizabeth and shorten it.
Phoebe - like
Tabitha - isn't that a witch in something?
Scarlet - If you think she will be confident, wouldn't suit a meek child imo.

caz05 · 25/02/2011 10:56

Thanks and don't worry honest opinions are needed. i used to think the same about Max being a dogs name but have been coming round to the idea (it is my partners favourite choice).

I am worried bout Lilly/Lily being too common (although I have not come across any yet).

I have known pets who are -
Dexter
Felix
Max
Rex
Cleo
Tabitha

So they don't feel like 'human' names to me.

If your partner isn't keen on them, then wouldn't it be a good idea to think of some others?

tummytickler · 25/02/2011 14:37

I only like Tabitha and Monty

justalittleblackraincloud · 25/02/2011 14:42

Dexter - Love this
Felix - I can't get over the cat food link
Monty - Makes me think of a horse Confused
Lennox - Don't like this
Max - It's ok
Rex - Toy Story!
Rocco - Nope, too Madonna-y
Seth - Doesn't float my boat

Lilly - Very popular
Cleo - Reminds me too much of the car
Daisy - Can't imagine a grown up Daisy for some reason
Lexi - It's ok
Izzy - Prefer it as a nickname than a given name
Phoebe - Like this
Tabitha - Love this, on my shortlist for next time
Scarlet - Again, ok. But quite popular.

cece · 25/02/2011 17:19

TBH if your partner doesn't like any of them then you really can't use one of them can you? But here is my 5p s worth..

Boys:

Dexter - not keen
Felix - too much of a cat/cat food thing
Monty - like
Lennox - awful
Max - great but popular
Rex - I like this one
Rocco - no!
Seth - like but it can be quite hard to say I think. Imagine shouting it down the supermarket aisle or at the park...

Girls:

Lilly - thought it was spelt Lily? Pretty but very popular
Cleo - like
Daisy - too little girl
Lexi - not for me
Izzy - no but Isabella is very nice
Phoebe - nice
Tabitha - cat
Scarlet - not for me

reikizen · 25/02/2011 17:21

Max is ok-ish but the girls list reads like a most popular girls name list I'm afraid. If that doesn't bother you I think Lily is the best bet.

rubybambini · 25/02/2011 17:38

Dexter - no
Felix - our cat's name - also like for a human!
Monty - no
Lennox - no
Max - grandfather was a Maxfield
Rex - like
Rocco - no
Seth - no

Girls:

Lilly - like, but spell Lily
Cleo - no
Daisy - OK
Lexi - OK
Izzy - OK
Phoebe - OK
Tabitha - like
Scarlet - no

pilates · 25/02/2011 18:36

Like the girls names but not the boys.

SeeJaneKick · 25/02/2011 18:42

Seth and Rocco...YES! Love both

Tabitha...was my fave but DH said no. Sad

NOT Lexi...it's very "Lexus" and will be rhymed wit "Sexy Lexi" when she's a teen. I see this with a relative.

Phoebe. Nice...what about Naomi?

MardyBra · 25/02/2011 18:51

Boys:

Dexter - too surnamey
Felix = cat
Monty - love it
Lennox - Annie
Max - really like this
Rex - really like this
Rocco - no trying too hard
Seth - Emmerdale character

Girls:

Lilly - nice but prefer Lily
Cleo - Love it
Daisy - too twee
Lexi - OK
Izzy - prefer Isobel or variant with Izzy as nn
Phoebe - love it
Tabitha - hate it with a passion but don't know why
Scarlet - should have 2 ts

mathanxiety · 25/02/2011 19:10

I only like Felix, Max, Cleo and Tabitha (three of which are apparently cats' names and one a dog name Grin). My favourites are Felix and Cleo.

caz05 · 26/02/2011 19:50

Thanks for all your views. Just waiting for partner to draw up his list now. I know Max and Lily will be going at the top of his list but I am still unsure.

How common is Lily? I do not know of any in my son's school so thought it was still fairly uncommon?

Also we already have an Isaac so was trying to find an another unusual (ish) name to match. Any other ideas to go alongside Isaac would be great.

Thanks :-)

cece · 26/02/2011 19:53

I would say Isaac and Lily have about equal footing in the popularity stakes.

How about;

Thea
Verity
Anna
Helena
Esther

caz this is such a mean comment - but I cant help it... How on earth have you came up with that boys names list when you obviously have had such brilliant taste to name your ds a fabulous name like Issac???

Lily is lovely, its funny - its one of these names that I often say "its very popular" to but its like Jack to me, I keep hearing its crazy popular and (I think) its high in the stats but I dont actually know many - I know of 1 Lily actually when I think about it.. (and 2 Jacks..not that thats relevant..)
