Would you be put off using a name if it was also the name of one of the computer systems at your work?

DC2 due in June, we don't know the sex but have had a few names shortlisted for a little while and a favourite of each - unfortunately my work now has a new computer system called (as an acronym) the same as our favourite name for a girl and it's put me off a bit now.

WWYD?

If you love the name just use it, the computer system won't last forever, or you might get a new job in a year or two's time.

June is a fair way off though, we ended up using the very first name we thought of but had to go through all the others to check we hadn't missed anything - you may well find something you like better, or indeed have a boy Wink

I had the same problem, fortunately we had a girl instead of a boy! Is it a pretty flower name by any chance? Wink

If it was a well-known computer system I'd probably avoid it. If it's just limited to your own workplace I'd consider it.

It is a flower name, it's only in our company at the mo but they are trying to farm it out to others. It'll never be a hugely well known system though.

It would be unfortunate if the computer system had been named such as the one at the Philips factory in Crolles, France. (now closed)
A unknown British engineer with a twisted sense of humour named the twin machines 'Fat Slag 1' and 'Fat Slag 2'. None of the local engineers ever understood or got the joke. Grin

I wouldn't worry about it. By the time she's 18 the work computers will be a distant memory......

What is it?

QOD · 23/02/2011 14:05

We use "Tia" at work!

I called my DS Alexander (Alex), returned to work after maternity leave and realised the main program we used on our computer system was called "data on Alex"
Subliminal messaging at work there I think Smile.

If you like the name use it.
