Ivy?

I have a feeling I know how this will go down, but just to check!

If it's not Ivy, it's going to be Kate, but I just can't help feeling that although Kate is liked, it's just a bit dull..

Thanks all Smile

I wouldn't have liked Ivy (IVY TILSLEY OMG) but now I know a toddler one, she's gorgeous and it suits her. I can see that it'll grow with her too, not as girly as some of the "flower" names but still pretty.

Ivy Kate is really nice as well, go for it :)

growing3rdbump · 23/02/2011 12:37

No, never considered Juliet.... but I'm def also on a rocky name road!

womma · 23/02/2011 21:21

Love Ivy - DD's middle name after my mum.

Second choice is my name, so I'd never consider it for anyone else!

Maud2011 · 24/02/2011 22:02

Not really keen... now maybe the zeitgeist will prove me quite wrong and Ivy will become the new Lily/Ruby, but to my mind it seems old ladyish in a slightly boring way.

How about Catherine instead of Kate? Kate's a nice enough shortening but if her official name is Catherine it will give her more choice when she decides which name she personally wants to be known by. Maybe she'll like Kate and stick with it, but she may prefer Cat or Catherine or Cathy?

I know what I'm talking about. I don't want to write my full name here but it's a rather grand and pretty one. I always used to be called Jo, which is simply one of its shortenings. I'm very glad I wasn't christened simply Jo because there are other shortenings I prefer by far - and I also prefer my original christened name to Jo. I appreciate Kate is more girly than Jo, but I think the gist of what I'm staying still holds water.

Beamur · 24/02/2011 22:04

Don't like either...but out of the two, Kate by a mile.

MissHavishamsDress · 24/02/2011 22:07

Much prefer Ivy to Kate. Much more special - I love greenery!

KAEKAE · 25/02/2011 15:48

I want to like Ivy...but something stops me, I think perhaps it sounds a little harsh. I do know a two year old little girl called Ivy and I think it suits her but don't think I would use it.

potatofactory · 25/02/2011 15:54

THanks all! (back to my usual name here)

Interesting comments all Smile

potatofactory · 25/02/2011 15:55

It would be Katherine, Maud.

peeriebear · 25/02/2011 15:57

My friend has a gorgeous little Ivy :)
I think Kate will look like you named her after Ms Middleton.

HenriettaFarthingay · 25/02/2011 16:01

Ivy - no, just no.

Kate - why not the proper name, Catherine, Kathryn or something, and Kate as a nickname?

SE13Mummy · 27/02/2011 01:00

I've taught two girls named Ivy; one is now 16, the other 7 and from completely different backgrounds (Nigerian and White British) but both fun, intelligent, lively girls. Ivy's a great name!

potatofactory · 27/02/2011 13:12

Thanks SE13! Smile

birdofthenorth · 28/02/2011 18:31

I suspect Kate & Catherine are going to get even more popular post Royal Wedding!

specialsmasher · 28/02/2011 19:23

Hello growing! Yes, today, though nothing happening... I will certainly come back & let you know what the (eventual) verdict is!

Oh no!!! No sign at all?! poor you.
Have you made a name decision yet?! I'm still on Ivy or Esme, but DH is still saying he doesn't like Esme, which is my favourite Sad.

specialsmasher · 09/03/2011 21:19

No sign - hospital appointment tomorrow, to check dd still happy in there & set a date for induction. No decision yet! Not Ivy, though... I like it still, & Esme too Smile but not an agreed choice for us.

Oh that's a shame. I LOVE the name Ivy. Would use it for one of mine but I already have a Hazel and don't want to start a theme.

But whatever you decide will be perfect and within a week yo won't imagine them called anything else
