So we've had a thread recently about the best surnames, and I was wondering what the worse ones you've come across are.

glittershoes · 17/02/2011 14:38

I know a Dick Tingle and a Jim Dick.

YeahWhatevah · 17/02/2011 14:43

Sacha (Bender) may have been a diminutive of Alexander. Better Sacha than A. Bender.

Odelay · 17/02/2011 14:51

Our headmaster was treblecock but pronounces treebeelco

Local headmaster now is dick head, yes Richard head actually calls himself dick. The mind boggles

I knew a John hoare. He changed it in his late teens to his mothers maiden name

Trinaluce · 17/02/2011 17:25

I work for the appointments dept in a hospital so I get to see a lot of unfortunate surnames. Unfortunately I also have to ring them and ask to speak to them....

Recently:
Bottoms
Butkis
Hoare
Hooker
Glasscock
Badcock
Goodcock

And many years ago in another business we had Mrs Starwarz. When I rang her I got a very curt 'It's Sta-vash'....

knitpicker · 17/02/2011 17:38

I knew a Danish girl whose surname was Klitguard.
ROLF at Butkis

mouffloncake · 17/02/2011 21:45

I had a client called Brenda Bender - seriously!

GibberingGinger · 17/02/2011 21:50

There was a lady who I used to deliver papers to as a teenager called Mrs Trollope. Awful surname

whysolate · 17/02/2011 21:52

Grocock
Snowball
Bertie
Hussey

I grew up with an unfortunate surname. My dad said it was "character building" Hmm

reelingintheyears · 17/02/2011 23:16

Cobbledick.
Goodbody.
Ramsbottom.
Aldwinkle.
Raper.
Hawe.
Dunny.

There must be hundreds more.

Cocks- Was once a customer of mine

Cleverly but only because her first name was Beverley.

fridakahlo · 18/02/2011 03:59

A realtor we met was called Dickstein, I kid you not!

cocoachannel · 18/02/2011 08:02

I have a friend who swears blind he went to school with a boy whose surname was Sprout. First name? Why, Russell, of course.

BaggedandTagged · 18/02/2011 08:08

I always wonder why Ed Balls didn't change his name by deed poll once he decided he had aspirations to be the PM.

Currently, he's just making life too easy for the headline writers.

InnocentRedhead · 18/02/2011 08:08

At school i knew a Mr Brown, not that bad, you may think but when his first name is Ash...

BalloonSlayer · 18/02/2011 08:10

I knew someone whose surname was Hooker and when he got married he changed it to his wife's name.

I also worked for a traditional family firm where the bosses were always Mr, and one of the families were called Rotter. They were really nice people so it was quite a cute ironic name, except the father and son were both Richard and called Dick and Dickie. They both sounded like some unfortunate venereal disease.

SecretNutellaFix · 18/02/2011 08:14

Bater, for a boy at any rate.

MarioandLuigi · 18/02/2011 08:15

I went to school with a family of Bogeys.

BodyUnknown · 18/02/2011 19:59

I hate my surname! Rhymes with gobbling, cue lots of jokes at school... goblin, boffin, nobbin etc etc.

I had a PE teacher called Miss Cockshott - pronounced "co-shot" apparently.

Hogg
Panter
Moane
Balls

And who can forget actor Benedict Cumberbatch? It's awful but wonderful at the same time.

melpomene · 19/02/2011 21:03

I had a flatmate with the surname Cockhead.

Next one isn't quite so bad - in the Guardian today there was an interview with shoe moghul Tamara Mellon - her young daughter is named Minty Mellon, which is a rather unfortunate combination I think.

CuppaTeaJanice · 19/02/2011 21:08

I had a teacher called Dr Burchett - obviously he was referred to as Dr Birdshit. I also know people with the surnames Balls, Bogg, Coxhead and Bender, and went to school with a Sarah Willey!

poodlerockin · 19/02/2011 21:16

I knew a girl whose surname was Hore.

chipmonkey · 19/02/2011 21:22

Dh had a colleague called Mr Hoshite.

marriednotdead · 19/02/2011 21:56

SherbetDibDab · 19/02/2011 22:00

There are 3 people on the electoral role with the surname Cuntz - see here

www.yournotme.com/default.aspx?forename=&surname=Cuntz

SherbetDibDab · 19/02/2011 22:02

And there's 22 Kunts on that website.
