Emmeline or Emilia (shortened to Emmy)

I prefer Emmeline and DP prefers Emilia (think he has a crush on Emilia Fox!)

I don't mind that they might get confused with Emily and Amelia..... that's just one of those things.

For a boy we now both seem to agree on Ted (Edward on birth certificate).

personally I prefer Amelia shortened to Emmy. I don't know why, but the one's you've suggested just sound made-up to me...........

no offense meant, just being honest

izzybiz · 07/02/2011 18:20

Im Emmaline, was Emmie as a child, get loads of complements on my name.

LetThereBeRock · 07/02/2011 18:25

I prefer Emmeline.

I love Emilia and it would have been my top choice if I'd had a girl. Emmy/Emmie is also lovely. Emmeline always automatically makes me think of Pankhurst which is not a bad thing but I prefer Emilia. She could also be Lia if she prefers.

freya2010 · 07/02/2011 18:37

Love them both but think Emmeline is a bit more special - both names can be shortened to Emmy which is also lovely

onimolap · 07/02/2011 18:47

I prefer Emilia.

Emmeline makes me think Pankhurst, so a good choice too.

Janni · 07/02/2011 18:48

Emmeline.

AllieW · 07/02/2011 18:49

Emilia is my favourite. I don't like the -line suffix on girls names, especially when said with certain southern (UK) accents which tend to emphasise it in an unpleasant way.

HedgeSparrow · 07/02/2011 18:50

Emmeline.

MelinaM · 07/02/2011 19:00

Emilia is my favourite tooSmile

Violethill · 07/02/2011 19:04

Emmeline

simonedeboudoir · 07/02/2011 19:07

Emmeline, definitely

LynetteScavo · 07/02/2011 19:08

Emilia.

Because I think Emmeline is just awful. (Sorry izzybiz!)

AnnieDelores · 07/02/2011 19:57

Mmmmmmmmm. 7 to 5 in favour of Emmeline. Not a vast cavern of difference! Looks like the indecision might rumble on - but glad both have had a positive response (mostly!)

Emmeline is pretty but I prefer Emilia, as that is my DD's name. :)

chickchickchicken · 07/02/2011 20:02

much prefer Emmeline

perpetuallypregnant · 07/02/2011 20:04

Emmeline is beautiful, I love it and Emmy too.
Emilia is fine it just seems a bit meh and all the ones I know get Millie for short.

AnnieDelores · 07/02/2011 20:06

Do you think men and women might respond differently to Emmeline? Izzybiz , what's your experience?

Emmeline - although Emilia is nice too

mathanxiety · 07/02/2011 20:13

Emmeline here. I don't like the 'meal' in the middle of Emilia, and Emmeline is more likely to be shortened to Emmy, whereas Emilia would more likely be Millie.

simonedeboudoir · 07/02/2011 20:17

I will expand. To me, Emmeine sounds quite cool while Emilia sounds more girly and twee. And it's a bit more of a mouthful.

simonedeboudoir · 07/02/2011 20:18

sorry Emmeline

fantus · 07/02/2011 20:21

My DD is Amelia - we thought of a number of different nicknames for her but once she was here it was Emmy that stuck. I now wish we had gone for Emelia!

Piffle · 07/02/2011 20:28

I have an Emmeline ( hubby hated so went for Emilia)
Shortened to Emmy
No issues about confusion and it's a sweet and unusual enough name
:)
