TallulahDoesTheHula · 06/02/2011 12:23

Already have an Oliver (Ollie) and an Edward (Teddy).
Love names that are longer with shorter nicknames

My top boys names are:

Jonah
Noah
Felix
Laurence (Laurie)
Miles
Charles (Charlie)
Cassian (Cass)

Middle name will be David

Top girls names are:

Francesca (Frankie)
Philippa (Pippa)
Elspeth (Elsie/Elsa)
Alexia (Lexie)
Mae
Aurora (Rory)
Isobel (Izzy)

Middle name will be Florence

What do you think? Which ones are best with my other Dcs names? and with the middle names?

I don't like Rory as nn for a girl, actually I don't really like Aurora (sorry).
All the others are ok, though I guess I prefer Noah & Philippa most.

EauRouge · 06/02/2011 12:34

I like-

Jonah
Laurence (Laurie)
Miles
Charles (but not nn Charlie)
Cassian (Cass)

Francesca (but not nn Frankie)
Philippa (Pippa)
Elspeth (Elsie/Elsa)
Aurora (Rory)

onimolap · 06/02/2011 12:36

Jonah - nice
Noah - OK
Felix - lovely
Laurence (Laurie) - lovely
Miles - don't like
Charles (Charlie) - fine
Cassian (Cass) - don't like

Francesca (Frankie) - OK
Philippa (PIppa) - OK
Elspeth (Elsie/Elsa) - lovely, but don't really like the nns
Alexia (Lexie) - OK, but don't like the nn
Mae - OK
Aurora (Rory) - lovely, but the nn is a Racing Car
Isobel (Izzy) - lovely

berryfreeze · 06/02/2011 12:37

Laurence and Francesca not to sure how it would go with Florence though, but both are lovely names

frankenfanny · 06/02/2011 13:10

The ones that go best with your boys are Felix, Laurence, Miles and Charles , especially IMO Charles and Laurence. Laurie is a personal favourite of mine.

Girls more difficult eg I love Frankie and Rory but not Francesca or Aurora. Philippa or Isobel would probably go best with your boys and the middle name, but to go with the theme might I suggest Elizabeth (Eliza/ Beth) instead of Elspeth and Alexandra (Alex)instead of Lexie. Not forgetting Josephine (Jo), Amelia (Amy) and Margaret (Meg) of course Wink.

Underachieving · 06/02/2011 13:38

First off I've seen your username around and I've read that news story with a mixture of mirth and horror too. So I had to have a look when I saw you had a babyname thread. Grin

It seems we have similar taste, I have considered every one of your boys names list myself, including your other sons, except Cassian and David (and then only David because I know one who puts me off).

So Cassian's the weak link for me there, and of the remainders Laurence and Charles are the ones that I think work best with David and with your older boys. They also have shorter nicknames more so than the other choices.

Francesca is lovely but if it goes with Florence or not depends on the surname I think. With a simple surname it'll work but anything even remotely fancy and she'll sound pretentious.

Not keen on Philippa at all, it's aging. Alexia and Isobel are a little fashionable right now and so they might not age as well as Mae or Aurora.

I'd go with Laurence or Aurora (which is just so pretty).

mamma2boyz · 06/02/2011 16:30

Noah David sounds lovely and goes realy well with Ollie and Teddy.

As for girls I love Mae and Elsa...sound great with your boys too,

Best of luck choosing!!!

cowboylover · 06/02/2011 19:44

I like your list but my fav combinations with the middle name;

Laurence (Laurie)
Charles (Charlie)

Top girls names are:

Francesca- but not with Florence - sorry
Alexia (Lexie)
Aurora (Rory)
Isobel (Izzy)

mathanxiety · 06/02/2011 23:02

Jonah -- Love. Jonah David - very nice.
Noah -- Dislike. I think this is a really 'wet' name.
Felix -- Love. Felix David - lovely.
Laurence (Laurie) -- I prefer Laurence and Laurie as girls' names
Miles -- OK
Charles (Charlie) a bit predictable with Teddy and Ollie; all popular names nice though. Charles David - nice.
Cassian (Cass) -- Cassius is nicer imo. And I like Caspian too. Cassian is neither fish nor fowl.

Francesca (Frankie) -- A bit too frilly, and a pity to give a girl a boy's nn imo; Francesca Florence would be too much.
Philippa (Pippa) -- Love. Philippa Florence is nice.
Elspeth (Elsie/Elsa) -- Love but dislike Elsie as a nn; Elsa is fabulous though. Elsa Florence or Elspeth Florence both nice, though the patter is a bit of a mouthful.
Alexia (Lexie) -- Dislike; Alexia is over the top madey uppey and Lexie is stripperish imo.
Mae -- Mae West, so no.
Aurora (Rory) -- Aurura is too Disneyesque, and Rory is a fine Irish boy's name corrupted by the Kennedy family, so 'Kennedyesque' (a bad thing).
Isobel (Izzy) -- Isobel and variants are enormously popular, along with names that shorten to Ellie. If a girl isn't called Ellie, chances are her name is Izzy.

mathanxiety · 06/02/2011 23:04

patter = 'latter' Wine

MelinaM · 07/02/2011 00:06

Jonah
Noah - very popular
Felix - also very popular and 'on trend' at the moment.
Laurence (Laurie) -Love it!
Miles - No!
Charles (Charlie) - Lovely too!
Cassian (Cass) - Love this one also!

Francesca (Frankie) - Nice, but don't like Frankie.
Philippa (Pippa) - No!
Elspeth (Elsie/Elsa) - Lovely!
Alexia (Lexie) - Again very popular at the mo.
Mae - A bit too plain.
Aurora (Rory) - Love this, and the nn too!
Isobel (Izzy) - Like it, but also very popular.

I'd go with Laurence or Charlie, and Aurora or ElspethSmile They're all lovely, lovely names and go perfectly with Ollie & Teddy ...absolutely love Teddy! x

Plonker · 07/02/2011 00:15

My favourites out of your choices for boys are Felix, Miles, Charles/Charlie and Cassian/Cass.

Miles would be my top choice but I think there's an old jazz musician called Miles David (or is it Davis) so don't know if this would put you off.

Out of your girl's names, I like Francesca/Frankie, Aurora/Rory and Isobel/Izzy. My favourite is Aurora (Rory is adorable!)

I love your boys names btw Smile

Underachieving · 07/02/2011 08:36

It's Miles Davis, but he's a bit of a legand so it mightn't be that bad a thing to be called.

Underachieving · 07/02/2011 08:37

*legend, sorry I do now how to spel onest Grin

TallulahDoesTheHula · 07/02/2011 08:45

Thank you all, I'm reading all comments and they are helping lots!!

DH's fave boys name is Miles, I think purely because it will be close to 'Miles Davis' so thats not a bad thing in our opinion.

So far, after all your comments - I am slightly put off Francesca (even though it was one of my favourites!) and am edging towards Elspeth/Elsa or Aurora for a girl.
Still undecided on boys names!

DH says 'I like them all' which is not helping - we will either have to have lots more babies or lots of middle names for this baby! Grin

I love Felix and like Noah (quite popular at the moment though)

Francesca is great but not sure it goes well with Florence

TallulahDoesTheHula · 07/02/2011 18:45

I think we have decided!
Laurence for a boy
and surprise new choice Charlotte for a girl!

What do you think?

OP posts:
HedgeSparrow · 07/02/2011 18:49

Lovely! Laurence/Laurie fab and I like Charlotte better than all your original girls names. Are you going to go for Lottie or Charlie as a nn?

TallulahDoesTheHula · 07/02/2011 19:55

Thanks! We will use Charlie as a nick name but I do like lottie too so don't mind if she were to get called that by people as well

OP posts:
Underachieving · 07/02/2011 20:13

Charlotte Florence is good too. Nothing wrong with that.

BeeBox · 07/02/2011 21:37

Love Laurie and Cass, but not Cassian, sorry. Cassius or Caspar?

Miles is quite nice, too. Miles David is a good, strong name.

Really not keen on Jonah, Noah or Felix.

Love Francesca and Aurora. Not keen on the others, and really dislike Isobel and Lexi intensely, sorry.

mathanxiety · 07/02/2011 22:03

Very nice indeed. I love Lottie.

PlanetLizard · 07/02/2011 22:24

Jonah - quite like
Noah - OK but Jonah more unusual
Felix - like
Laurence - like
Miles - like
Charles (Charlie) - like
Cassian (Cass) - not keen

Francesca (Frankie) - not keen
Philippa (Pippa) - lovely
Elspeth (Elsie/Elsa) - quite like
Alexia (Lexie) - prefer Alexandra
Mae - prefer May
Aurora (Rory) - like
Isobel (Izzy) - like, though very popular

nancythenaughtyfairy · 07/02/2011 22:29

My favourites are Charles, Miles and Francesca.

frankenfanny · 08/02/2011 01:52

I think you've got it! Laurie and Charlie are perfect Grin.
