Tom, Ben or Sam?

These seem to be the only three boys names DH and I just about agree on. I'd put Thomas Benjamin or Samuel on the birth cirtificate, but would use the shortened versions from day to day. Your order of preference please? Thanks!

Sam.

Less popular these days I think.

StrawberryMess · 31/01/2011 20:38

oooh - very phonic. I like Tom Sam Ben as Ben is for the youngest (is meaning).

Max, Tim and Seb also very phonic :)

Sam, Ben, Tom.

All great names, though!

asdx2 · 01/02/2011 05:36

Ben, Tom, Sam would be my choice but of course I have a Ben.
They are all nice names though and age really well IMO

expectingno3 · 01/02/2011 22:32

Wow, what a response! Thanks. Looks like they all get an equal no of votes. I'm not too sure they are that common at the moment- neither of my dd's have a ben tom or sam in their class! Just another thought last night- what do people think of Luca?

OP posts:
PlanetLizard · 01/02/2011 22:34

Don't like Luca, sorry. Much prefer Luke.

WishIWasRimaHorton · 01/02/2011 22:38

ben sam tom

lucas is great. not keen on luca. although know quite a few round here (luca - that is). don't know any lucases (as it were)

anthonywiggleisthebest · 01/02/2011 22:47

Ben LOVE Benjamin

Then Tom, then Sam... I think

JamieLeeCurtis · 02/02/2011 13:55

Ben
Sam

Tom

JamieLeeCurtis · 02/02/2011 13:57

I like Luca, but I'm quite surprised because it's quite different from your other choices (more "trendy" IYSWIM)

CharlieBoo · 02/02/2011 14:20

Sam is by far the nicest...

Tom is ok

Ben a bit boring for my taste.

expectingno3 · 14/02/2011 22:52

Ok, as a little update for myself and anyone else who's vaugely interested -
Most popular came out as Ben, followed by Sam, followed by Tom. Quite surprised actually - thoguht Tom would be above Sam. Stats hey...
Will definiteLy be showing the results to DH. Now, Benjamin or Benedict?!

I prefer Benjamin (am biased, as I have one!) but Benedict is nice too. If it helps, Benjamin is a name for a youngest son, means "Son of the Right Hand" and is Hebrew in origin, Benedict is Latin and means Blessed.

shabbapinkfrog · 14/02/2011 23:00

My vote would always go with Tom - probably because my 4th DS is called Tom. It is such a brilliant name....he gets Tom, Tommy and Thomas when I am cross with him Grin All the names are great - love really manly boys names. They suit every age xx

nikki1978 · 14/02/2011 23:00

My son is a ben too. We just called him ben but if pushed I would say I prefer Benjamin to benedict.

cece · 14/02/2011 23:01

All lovely. I have a Tom but he is just Tom, as we don't like Thomas.

so

Tom
Sam
Ben - reminds me a tiny bit of a labrador name - but still fine!

cece · 14/02/2011 23:02

We did consider Luke too! So like that as well but not Luca.

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 14/02/2011 23:04

Tom Ben Sam

Tom in a different league to Ben and Sam - neither of which i like at all. Ben has lovely meaning though

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 14/02/2011 23:05

I agree with poster who said Thomas Benjamin

shabbapinkfrog · 14/02/2011 23:25

Thomas Benjamin is a lovely name.

mandy1978 · 16/02/2011 10:14

i have a benjamin adam, i love his name..

nn ben, and there are no bens around where i live at all at moment!!

xx

OP, are you really naming your child on the basis of a random selection of (many biased) mumsnetters opinions' Hmm.

Ben, Sam and Tom are all fine, if very popular, names. Choose one YOU and DH love and that goes with your surname!

tammytoby · 16/02/2011 13:31

Tom, Sam and Ben are all very common and a little dull in my opinion (you did ask Smile). I do like Lucas though.

supadupapupascupa · 16/02/2011 13:34

Tom or Thomas for me. Also like Ben but it sounds a bit feminine to me.......
