There is a little girl in my class with this name. Her name is spelt Alishba.

sophiesmummie · 20/01/2011 17:54

I'd pronounce
Aleisha as Alaysha and
Alisha as Alisha

Congratulations!

Dylthan · 20/01/2011 17:57

I know someone who spells it Alicia.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/01/2011 17:59

Alicia is lovely and looks classic, the others look horrible.

Hulababy · 20/01/2011 18:00

Ooops, sorry misread. Just been doing some school work so must have had her name in my head!

I would use Alicia, to be pronounced A/l-ee/sh/a

onepieceoflollipop · 20/01/2011 18:01

Alicia can also be pronounce "Alissia" rather than "Alisha"

I know two Alicias in their 20s/30s pronounced "Alisha".

One "Alisha" aged 7. Have also seen it pronounced with a y in the middle. I think it varies.

Twinklebum · 20/01/2011 18:15

aghhh nothing conclusive then!

i'm not too keen on the alicia spelling because to me that should be pronounced alissia.

still very Confused

i think both spellings are used so just go for the one you like more, as its one of those names with a few spelling options people may have to ask anyway.
i do think alisha/aleisha is less ambiguous than alicia as mentioned thats either alisha or alissia

PigTail · 20/01/2011 18:47

I would spell it Alicia.

freerangeeggs · 20/01/2011 18:57

I much prefer Alicia, but of the two you've listed I think Alisha looks better.

Kayzr · 20/01/2011 18:59

My neighbours dd is spelt Aleesha. I personally prefer Alisha.

pozzled · 20/01/2011 19:00

I'd go with Alisha.

HelenaRose · 20/01/2011 19:27

I think I'd pronounce Alisha as 'a-lish-uh' though, rather than 'a-lee-shuh'. Aleesha? ... No.

PracticallyImperfectInEveryWay · 20/01/2011 22:46

My sister is Alicia - it was intended to be pronounced Aleeseea but my grandma couldn't say it so it just became the Alisha pron. I prefer it spelt Alicia but only because that looks 'right' to me.

I also knew an Elisha at school.

PracticallyImperfectInEveryWay · 20/01/2011 22:48

I just realised that was not at all helpful - of the two you mentioned I prefer Alisha :)

PlanetLizard · 20/01/2011 23:02

Elisha is a male name from the Bible (pronounced El-EYE-sha) but some people are now using it as a girls name, like a version of Alisha.

mamas12 · 20/01/2011 23:06

Well Alicia is the original spelling I think the others are variations or diferent spellings from other languages.
So down to you you really - spell it how you want to.

mathanxiety · 20/01/2011 23:08

Alicia. The other spellings are inner city US style versions.

ravenAK · 20/01/2011 23:14

Dd1 is Alicia (pron. Alissia) - she quite often gets called 'Alisha', so I'd definitely avoid spelling Alisha 'Alicia', if you want it pronounced Alisha because it obviously confuses people! Grin

Of your two spellings, I'd go for Alisha - it makes it clear how you want it pronounced, whereas I'd wonder if 'Aleisha' should be pronounced Alaysha, if I came across it written down.

But whichever you prefer, really - I'm a teacher & I cheerfully deal with unfamiliar spellings &/or pronunciations all the time - you just make a mental note & get on with it!

Twinklebum · 21/01/2011 11:28

thanks all i think i will go with the alisha spelling!!! Smile
