One of my friends has just found out she is expecting identical twins. The gender will be found out at the next scan hopefully.
Does anyone have any nice suggestions?

Do you want people to realise they are twins? I mean, when they are in secondary school, do you want them to go round in a pair all the time. Our twins are in the same class and when we went to parents' evening recently one teacher hadn't even realised they were twins! (They are non-identical girl twins btw)We rated that as a success. They are separate people and deserve different names.

I agree CrossordAddict. My DTDs are ID, and are only 4, but I was pleased, on parents evening, that their teacher said that they don't cling to each other and are entirely independent.

Naming twins should be no different to naming siblings. The matchy-matchy names-that-go-together thing is too twee.

Mind are Daisy and Emily. I also know a Tallulah and Grace, a Phoebe and Liam and a Jessica and Evie.

oops - mine, not mind.

EvilTwins - yes I do. They are about the same age as yours.

Fair enough. Do they have names of similar length, or was your suggestion born out of weeks of complaints that "my name is harder to write that his/hers"?? Smile!

I a an identical twin, and my sister has a name starting with the same letter as mine.

DON'T DO IT!

Ideas from sets of twins I know:-

Thomas and William
Joshua and Callum
Isabel and Sophia
Edward and Michael
Nicholas and Stephen
Millie and Ella

I would go for name which are similarish (e.g. both classic/traditional or both a bit more modern, whichever is your preference) but not one classic and one really unusual.

So Thomas and Daniel, fine, but Thomas and Alvar maybe not....

Grace and Eleanor fine but Grace and Skylar maybe not....

Nothing wrong with Alvar or Skylar (in fact Alvar is one of my favourite names) but you would need something else unusual to go with them.

If possible, try and avoid names that run together and make another name. I know the twins won't always be referred to together, but names like Rose and Anna can run together into Roseanna and make it sound like you are lumping them together into one person. It's unlikely that people would be so silly as to thin of them as one person, but anything you can so to limit it helps

I knew two sets of twins when growing up:

Tracey and Teresa (Trace and Trees!)
Karina and Tamina

Neither good, particularly the rhyming pair!
