I'm considering Beatrix for a girl. Or maybe Imelda but fear it's too similar to DD's name which is Matilda.

But I have a feeling DC2 is going to be a boy which is where I get really stuck!

We used to like Rory but I've really gone off it.

I (quite) like, but can't have, Felix, Henry, Stanley, George... and I could have Archie but it's just so popular. And I don't really like Archibald but would want a "proper" first name for the birth certificate etc.

Which seems to leave me with:
Albert
Arnold (Arnie)
Batholomew (Bart)
Herbert/Hubert
Humphrey

But they seem a bit...hmmm...

So ideas please!

Arthur, Leonard, Peter.
I would love Maurice to make a comeback Grin
Barnaby?

Does it have to be old man? Have you read the Telegraph obits?

Wallace
Horace
Walter
Harold
Edgar

I prefer Rory to all your other options. I do think boys names are difficult though. How about Angus or Fergus? Hector seems to be making a comeback around here, but not really my taste....

itisntreallyme · 19/01/2011 09:53

I love Barnaby but can't have that or Arthur or Peter. Probably can't have Angus either though I do like that too.

Not very keen on the others I'm afraid but I do appreciate your ideas. And it doesn't have to be old man but I do prefer more traditional, and not too popular/common, names.

How about Harvey, Herbie (as a nn for Herbert), Edwin or Edmund? (I love Edwin, but already have an Edward so couldn't use it), or Hamish. Beatrix is lovely for a girl, though personally much prefer the Beatrice spelling.

MaElsie · 19/01/2011 16:18

How about girls: Miranda, Isadora, Dorothea, Tabitha, Isabella, Imogen - unusual but classic names

And boys: Digby, Wilfred, Bertram (Bertie), Charles (Charlie... although it could start to look like you're going for all Roald Dahl books), Ralf, Sebastian, Theo, Rupert

itisntreallyme · 19/01/2011 20:36

Thanks Hedwig! I love Humphrey too but think we'll get a lot of Hmm if we go for it. Pleased to see Herbert getting a couple of votes too.

I knew an AWFUL Marcus once so that's a no no. Can't have William, Charles or Oliver either! Like Edward/Edwin/Edmund but not keen on Ed or Eddy as nicknames!

Definitely some food for thought though so thanks all. Quite like Digby and Bertram too...
