My dh and I have narrowed our choice down to these four names but would like some feedback. Nicknames would me Mia, Gigi, Libby and Maddie.

Elizabeth

onimolap · 14/01/2011 19:56

O like Elizabeth the best, by a long way.

Amelia and Madeline are OK; I prefer Georgina or Georgiana to Georgia (which makes me think of the former Soviet republic).

purpleiris · 14/01/2011 19:56

My order of pref...

Hmm, I can't decide between Amelia and Elizabeth - think I like them both the same - however, as much as I like Mia and Libby, I think I prefer Millie and Beth.

Then Madeline
Then Georgia

All lovely names! :)

SunshineOnARainyDay · 14/01/2011 19:58

Amelia then Elizabeth then Georgia. Not keen on Madeline

TwistAndShout · 14/01/2011 19:58

Georgia or Elizabeth for me. Probably Elizabeth actually as like all the nicknames.

Amelias are ten a penny round here.

cupofteaplease · 14/01/2011 19:59

Elizabeth. It's my name though, so I am biased Wink

foggerty · 14/01/2011 20:00

I have a Georgia Elizabeth, so like those names best!

lilly13 · 14/01/2011 20:43

Amelia!

NadiaWadia · 14/01/2011 21:14

Like Madeleine the best - but prefer this spelling

Then

  1. Elizabeth - a classic
3.Georgia 4.Amelia

But they are all nice.

PortBlacksandEventually · 14/01/2011 21:27

I prefer Georgina to Georgia - it has much more class to it.

BrigitBigKnickers · 14/01/2011 21:31

Madeleine is lovely. (prefer traditional spellings)

Love Amelia (which can also be shortened to Milly which is sweet.)

Don't like Georgia but as others have said, Georgina is a lovely name (shortened to Gina)

Elizabeth is a beautiful name but don't like Libby as a nick name. Lizzy or Beth would be my preference.

PracticallyImperfectInEveryWay · 15/01/2011 04:00

In order of preference
Elizabeth
Georgia
Amelia
Madeline

All lovely names :)

CupcakesHay · 15/01/2011 04:03

I like georgia best. but all are nice.

PlanetLizard · 15/01/2011 10:14

Amelia or Georgia.

stressheaderic · 15/01/2011 10:22
  1. Elizabeth (by a mile - I've yet to meet anyone who hasn't liked this classic name, Beth and Lizzie much better as nicknames, Libby is a bit harsh)
  2. Georgia (like this a lot, Georgina good too)
  3. Amelia (very very common here, and not in a good way)
  4. Madeline (not keen)

I don't get the choosing of nicknames before the baby arrives, I thought nicknames sort of evolved as you and others started using the name. And I don't like it when people say to me "she's called but please call her ", what's the point?

I like your names though, we had Georgia and Mia on our list but called our DD Beth.

tummytickler · 15/01/2011 10:31

Definately Elizabeth. I prefer Bess to Libby though, but it has loads of lovely nn's so not really a problem
Madeline is nice as well.
Really dislike Amelia and Georgia.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 15/01/2011 10:35

Elizabeth, but I am biased because I currently have a little Elizabeth sat on my lap!
Amelia is my second choice. My nieces name, my sister is playing around with calling her Melly as a nickname (she watched Gone with the wind and had her heart set on the nickname Melly!)

amandine07 · 16/01/2011 17:34

I love Amelia although I think it's a v common name now...how about Amelie the french version?
As for the others my order of preference is Madeline, Elizabeth and Georgia (reminds me of a spoilt brat having a tantrum!!)

ZZZenAgain · 16/01/2011 17:34

I quite like all those names - but none of the nicknames tbh

BellaMagnificat · 16/01/2011 17:41

Elizabeth :) Of all the diminutives though, I think Beth is by far the best. Don't like Liz and Lizzie is a bit cutesie for my taste.

My great granny was Amelia Elizabeth

OddBodd · 16/01/2011 20:28

Elizabeth definitely! I also love Beth and Liz.

mum295 · 17/01/2011 15:46

Our DD is a Madeleine (trad. spelling) - but she is definitely more of a Maddie, not a girly-girl.

Great thing about the name is that later in life she can choose which to be, as suits her personality/career and so on. No other Madeleines or Maddies in her current nursery. We come across the odd Maddy/Maddie out and about, but they are usually Madisons.

Like Elizabeth for the same reasons. That said, all of these names are lovely and have been on my list too!

flopsy1974 · 17/01/2011 16:24

Elizabeth is a beautiful name - timeless and classic. Not too keen on the others.

nickelbabysnatcher · 17/01/2011 16:28

I love Elizabeth, and Amelia would be my 2nd choice from your list.

Secretwishescometrue · 17/01/2011 19:59

Elizabeth would be my favourite but Eliza is my preferred nn then Beth both which I love. Amelia is just lovely and Mia is so sweet but iv heard its very popular too would that bother you? I do like Georgia is it Mad-a-line not Mad-a-lynn your thinking? Not overly keen on either but would prefer the latter pronunciation. Really like your list though :)
