Hi all,

We've found out today I'm having a DD2. We had epic battles with DD1's name and settled on Ffion which we were both ok with after a few days. I'd like to avoid this with the next one so want to decide on names before she's here.

My list
Violet (am leaning toward this)
Francesca (too Italian for welshies?)
Elizabeth
Jemima
Clara
Esme
May (babies due date in this month)
Helena
Diana

which one do u like the best?

What a lovely shortlist - my favourites would be Helena which i love(DD2's name)and Clara... having said that i like them all except Diana (and Francesca could be a bit tricky with Ffion?) Congratulations x

mathanxiety · 06/01/2011 15:13

I love Helena, Jemima and Clara.

Do you like any other Welsh names to go with Ffion (lovely name)?

Sarsaparilllla · 06/01/2011 15:48

I like Violet and Esme :)

Not keen on May after baby's due date

Hullygully · 06/01/2011 15:49

Chapella
Daffodilla
Leekalee
Rhondda

ComeAlongPond · 06/01/2011 16:10

Love Violet (and Viola), Elizabeth, Jemima and Clara. Helena is lovely too, and I think it goes best with Ffion?

Not too keen on the others tbh.

NewImprovedJollster · 06/01/2011 16:12

my friend just had a baby girl Celyn (apparently welsh for Holly)... goes really well with Ffion?

Deciduousblonde · 06/01/2011 16:17

I like Violet & Francesca. Not keen on the others, but of course it's your choice :)

How do you pronounce Clara..is it like Clare-a or Clar-a?

ShoppingDays · 06/01/2011 17:06

It can be either but the one I knew was called Clar-a, which I think is nicer sounding. Clare-a sounds a bit affected to me.

tebbles · 06/01/2011 17:25

Violet. I like this.

Francesca. Is sharing a first initial with her sister going to be an issue?

Elizabeth. I like this

Jemima. I think Puddleduck, but you might like this association.

Clara. I dislike the confusions over pronounciation. Is it 'Clair (like air) -uh' or 'Clar (like car)- ar'?

Esme. Is it 'Ez-mee' or 'Ez-may'?

May. I dont see a problem with a January baby being called May. It is nice IMO.

Helena. Is it Hel-ay-na or Hel-ee-na or Helen-uh?

Diana. Dislike -think of the princess, sorry

tebbles · 06/01/2011 17:27

Sorry, I just realised I had a lot of problems with the pronounciations of your chosen names, it might just be me having those difficulties (I'm not originally from the UK)

Catsmamma · 06/01/2011 17:28

Go with Francesca...you'll save a fortune on name tapes and hand-me downs will already be labelled!

You know it makes sense

tebbles · 06/01/2011 17:28

OTOH I do like Ffion a lot and am familiar with the pronounciation of it.

MardyBra · 06/01/2011 17:35

IMHO

Violet - nice not too popular
Francesca - lovely name and OK for welshies IMO
Elizabeth - OK but not my fav
Jemima - always makes me think of puddleducks and tweeness - sorry
Clara - nice name
Esme - nice name possibly getting more popular
May - nice but how long is your surname.

Helena - lovely
Diana - will always have sad Princess Di connotations for me.

Diana and Jemima are the only ones I would Hmm at. the rest are perfectly good names.

ShoppingDays · 06/01/2011 18:51

I like them all apart from Jemima and Esme.

LittleYellowTeapot · 06/01/2011 18:55

They are all lovely names but my favourite is Jemima.

I recently met an adorable baby called Helena and the name is now really growing on me.

The only one I wouldn't use is Diana.

Eglu · 06/01/2011 18:57

I like Jemima, Clara and Esme. Jemima is one of my all time faves, although I feel Clara may go better with Ffion, if you care about that sort of thing.

Florrie2 · 06/01/2011 19:14

Mathanxiety- I like lots of welsh names, but family on both sides and close friends have nabbed them all.

Hullygully- in a fit of hormones once, I was toying with variants of daffodil for DD1 but thankfully dp put his foot down!

I thought there was only one way of pronouncing Helena- Helenuh iykwim. Thought Clara was Clar-a too.

Many thanks for your opinions, I've now narrowed it down to Violet, Helena, Clara and Jemima. All of which I love unfortunately.

Had a name ready picked out for a boy, what's the luck!

Maybe put a double 'n' in Helenna?? Makes your pronounication more obvious.

jellybeans · 06/01/2011 19:26

Clara

Rhubarbgarden · 06/01/2011 19:33

Love Violet, Helena and Clara. Considered them all for dd.

NewYearNewPants · 06/01/2011 19:34

I love Francesca, Elizabeth, Clara and Diana

Def not Violet or Esme or Jemima

ragged · 06/01/2011 19:34

I vote Diana -- what I wanted for DS3.
It's a lovely name and it's time people got over other connotations (Margaret is making a comeback, at last).

Violet is my fave among the others.

AnnOnimous · 06/01/2011 20:04

Helena.

Oh, and I actually really like Rhonda!

BelligerentGhoul · 06/01/2011 20:10

I like Violet, Elizabeth, Esme or Helena best. Helena probably my favourite.

Deciduousblonde · 07/01/2011 10:22

Violet. Love it Grin

Francesca. One of my favourites!

Elizabeth. Not keen on it

Jemima. Some would think 'duck' but I think 'rag doll on Playschool' which isn't a bad thing in my book!

Clara. I dislike the confusions over pronounciation. Is it 'Clair (like air) -uh' or 'Clar (like car)- ar'?

Esme. Quite nice!

May. Not wonderful, IMO

Helena. Is it Hel-ay-na or Hel-ee-na or Helen-uh?

Diana. Not keen on this one either..sorry
