Ok,unexpected pregnancy alert! so we haven't done that thing where you randomly discuss names before conception ;)

Just found out we are having our 3rd girl. Wonderful news, but a boy would have been easier as we both agree on a boys name. Sheesh! he likes Amelia (in fact he is stuck on it) but as our surname is Moore I think the 'M' sound is too much? I like Lily (popular I know, but I like it) he isn't keen on my other suggestions of Regan, Rowan, Sian & Daisy.

Help! :)

Well...in a way I am glad that other people have pointed out the same concerns I have with the Amelia/Amy thing! I bit the bullet and told Amy about her dads name suggestion & my doubts, and she said it didn't worry her as the emphasis on her first letter is an 'Ay' sound, whilst Amelia is a hard 'A' sound.

Oh I don't know Confused

Olivia has been vetoed by DH, as has Lydia (both suggestions I have put forward recently!)

I also have a Rachael, so that's another no-no. Kate, Lucy & Nina are close cousins of mine. Emily is my mother in laws second name, which would put my mothers nose out of joint..lol. I had an aunt Rose. DH has suggested no family names for this one.

I'm not keen on Helen or Kerry, which just leaves Anna & Arianne to think about (my second name is Anne, so it might be dodgy for DH!)

Thanks all :)

Just to add, we had already decided that she would probably be known as 'Millie'..but with a middle name Lily? don't think it's a good idea Wink

What about Susie (short for susannah) or Zoe? They would both go with Rachael and Amy.

Anna Moore - that's not great either. Anna Mal... it's a little similar!

If you like Lucy, what about Gracie? Gracie Moore sounds good.
I love Nina. What about Elsa?

I was going to suggest Naomi and Jemima to go with Rachael but not with a sur name beginning with M. hmm, tricky.

ValiumTinselton · 08/01/2011 09:50

And Evie too.

Amy, Evie, Rachael and..... susie, elsa, zoe

Amy, Evie, Rachael and.... Leah, Libby, Milly (short for Emilia to make it less like Amy, different initial anyway)

Amy, Evie, Rachael and Eliza, Sadie, Flora (less roundabout for your husband)

any of these sound like a good fit?

personally I wouldn't go for lily or milly. Think they are a bit flimsy sounding. jmo of course.

Deciduousblonde · 09/01/2011 13:54

Eliza, Sadie & Flora didn't pass the DH test :( Susannah is my sister in laws name, so will have to pass on that one too!

Libby is nice, but DH just kept on about orange juice Confused

I think we have pretty much decided on Amelia or Emilia, although my main concern now with Emilia is the confusion over spelling for some people.

Jeez this is hard...lol

I think if she is going to be known as Millie then the similarity between Amelia and Amy is less of issue. Although maybe it would be safer to go with go with Emilia. Lily is fine for a middle name I think. As Amy doesn't mind and there is obviously a large enough age gap for them not to be considered as a pair maybe it would be quite nice for the new baby to have a similar name to her big sister. You are right its a tricky one Smile

Deciduousblonde · 11/01/2011 01:34

The problem with Emilia is that DH hates the idea of it being shortened to Em or Emmie. He's fine with Millie though.

Thanks for your thoughts re Amy/Amelia. Amy actually feels quite honoured, so that's nice :)

We have decided against Lily for a middle name. The idea of Millie Lily was filling us with dread, so we have decided on the pretty but safe (popular, more like!) Grace.

I know an Amelia Grace and I know sisters Amy and Millie! :)

Agree that Emilia is better with Amy, in fact I was going to suggest it, but was beaten to it! Was also going to suggest Emmeline, but she would probably get Em/Emmy. Other thoughts that sprung to mind, Imogen, Adalyn (Addie), Annabel (Annie/Bella), Amabel(Mabel)...
