I like Francesca but my husband reckons she would be called fanny. What do you think?! ;)

I know a Francesca and she is mostly called by her full name but sometimes Frankie.
I love this name. Its very high on my list for DC3! I would use Frankie as a nn or perhaps Fran, cant see Fanny being used tbh

truffleshuffle · 04/01/2011 10:41

I don't think so. Maybe Fran or Cesca though.

rubyslippers · 04/01/2011 10:41

franny

Chessie

I love the name Francesca

bisybackson · 04/01/2011 10:42

I know 2 Francescas. One is Frankie and the other is Fran or Franny.

Lovely name.

bethan37 · 04/01/2011 10:47

I love it but hes put me off. I said Fran or Frankie would be used then he said 'fran?' she will be teased and called Franny or fanny....

You can't choose a nn ...it will happen naturally

MmeLindt · 04/01/2011 10:50

No, not at all.

My DD was almost Francesca - it is her middle name. If we had used it then I had intended to shorten it to Chessy.

You can influence nicknames by giving your DD your own (preferred) one. Later, when she is in school she might opt for a different one though.

Nightstar · 04/01/2011 15:25

Yes, I knew a Chessie as well. I always liked her name, though both she and i disliked Francesca.

I knew a Fran, but she was my husbands ex so i think shes a cow ;-)

Rockbird · 04/01/2011 15:27

Fanny is not a nickname for Francesca, Franny would be. Your DH is being a twit. Wink

BikeRunSki · 04/01/2011 15:28

Fanny is not short for francesca, it has an R in.

My DGf and DH were both deliberately given short names so avoid dodgy nicknames. They both have nn that have nothing to do with their names. NN will happen regardless. Mine is to do with my hair.

The Fracescas I know are Fran, Franny and Cesca.

The Francesca I know is always called Frankie.

Oldjolyon · 04/01/2011 16:48

I have taught several Francescas, not one of them was called Fanny.

Lovely name.

TooImmature2BMum · 04/01/2011 17:44

Frances is shortened to Fanny and it has an R in it too. That said, I'm not sure kids would make that jump. You can never tell what kids will pick on and what they won't.

bethan37 · 05/01/2011 13:18

It is a lovely name. I totally get what nicknames an adult would use but im talking about playground humour, he said he could just imagine some kids calling her fanny and i can see them making that jump too but good to hear from the teacher! ;)

All the Francesca's I've met have been Frankie or Fran.

boysnamesarehard · 05/01/2011 15:47

I have never heard that!

Our Francesca has always been Cesca (cheska) because that is all her brother could say. I love it and I love her full name, I think they both work well for little girls and for adults.

I quite like Frankie but it just wouldn't suit her at all and I can't actually imagine it being short for Francesca any more.

Fran for me is more old fashioned and a little boring and plain whereas Francesca itself is prettier.

Go for it!

lottiejenkins · 05/01/2011 16:02

My friend has a Francesca, she is known as Checkers!!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/01/2011 16:42

I know 3, one aged 14 nn Frankie,
One aged 4 nn Fran
and one aged 4 called Francesca!

perpetuallypregnant · 05/01/2011 19:46

Fran or Frankie.

Both pretty imo

Lonnie · 05/01/2011 20:17

I know 5 Francesca's 1 is called Chessie 2 Fran 1 Frannie and 1 by her full name.

HelenaRose · 06/01/2011 11:26

I know a Hannah that got called Hanny Fanny; you just can't tell what people will make nicknames out of.

I'd call a Francesca 'Frankie'. :)

SoupDragon · 06/01/2011 11:28

I went to school with a Francesca and she was never Fanny. I don't think you need to worry.

Deciduousblonde · 06/01/2011 13:33

Definitely won't be a Fanny! I have heard the other nicknames..a friend of mine calls her daughter 'Chess' :)
