Violet or Flora

all the rest are cat names! ;)

FlorenceAndTheMachine · 03/01/2011 20:19

Out of those I like Mabel, Edith and Violet best

autodidact · 03/01/2011 20:20

Nancy is my favourite.

BelligerentGhoul · 03/01/2011 20:22

Love Violet and like Flora.

CuppaTeaJanice · 03/01/2011 20:28

Allegra.

All the others sound like the washing up rota from the Womens Institute coffee morning.

ginhag · 03/01/2011 20:31

Sorry could be wrong but isn't Allegra a car?

ginhag · 03/01/2011 20:32

Oh and I like Violet best out of the list

ginhag · 03/01/2011 20:34

Oh think the car was Allegro Blush

BarbieLovesKen · 03/01/2011 20:36

Ooh I knew one Flora she was gorgeous and I remember thinking "God, what a pretty name" so for that reason I vote Flora Smile.

I also really like Violet.

Mabel - this is an old ladies name to me but I know loads on Mumsnet love this.

Peggy - oh no.

Winifred - truely awful.

Edith - ok.

Flora - absolutely gorgeous.

Violet - fabulous.

Nancy - meh. No.

Agnes - think it will be impossible to avoid nickname Aggie, which I absolutely hate.

Allegra - pretty.

Plonker · 03/01/2011 20:40

I watched Bridge to Terabithia the other day and found myself surprisingly drawn to the name Mabel. Very cute.

Flora is cute too, but I was raised in the Flora margerine era and the link is still too strong for me, unfortunately

I also like Nancy. Dh wanted to call dd3 Nancy, which I vetoed at the time, but quite like now.

Not keen on the others

tummytickler · 03/01/2011 20:41

I like Peggy and Winifred.
Violet is quite cute too.
Agnes is very up and coming imo, if that bothers you. I know a surprising amount of young Aggies!
Flora, Edith, Mabel - all a bit dull.
Nancy - quite sweet.
Allegra - not a fan of this, but dh likes it if that helps Grin

ShoppingDays · 03/01/2011 20:47

I like Edith, Violet and Allegra from your list.

JamieLeeCurtis · 03/01/2011 20:48

Some nice names here

Peggy - love it, BUT would choose Margaret, and then Peggy/Maggie as nn

Mabel - like it.

Winifred - no - ugly-sounding

Edith - nice - love Edie as a nn, but getting more popular here (if that matters to you)

Flora - OK

Violet - lovely

Nancy - like, but would choose Marianne as long name

Agnes/Allegra - no

Highlandgirl · 03/01/2011 21:17

Nancy and Violet...are the best but I just love Agnes...nn is Aggy..which is just brilliant.

Sunnybear · 03/01/2011 22:31

Thanks everyone. Didn't know that Nancy was a nn for Marianne.
Love the idea of the WI tea rota!!

HelenaRose · 03/01/2011 22:57

Mabel - still an old lady or cat name to me, but popular on here
Peggy - my nan's called Peggy; I like it, but as a nn for Margaret
Winifred - my other nan's middle name! Severely dislike it for this reason; she was a horrible old woman.
Edith - I think this is due a come-back
Flora - beautiful
Violet - beautiful
Nancy - lovely
Agnes - not a fan, sorry
Allegra - again, not really a fan

FellatioNelson · 03/01/2011 23:00

Peggy Edith or Violet

Rhubarbgarden · 03/01/2011 23:09

I like them all except Allegra.

purpleiris · 03/01/2011 23:18

My initial thoughts...

Mabel - love it
Peggy - Mitchell
Winifred - a great Auntie Winnie
Edith - Bowman
Flora - margarine
Violet - pretty
Nancy - cute
Agnes - Deyn (but she is Agyness, I know)
Allegra - music?! and I think it's an allergy relief drug?!

Sorry for the negative ones! On the whole, I do actually really like the style of names!

Meglet · 03/01/2011 23:26

Mabel - love it!
Peggy - Mitchell (again!)
Winifred - Winnie Smile
Edith - not sure
Flora - no, similar to Florence which is also lovely but there might be a lot of them soon.
Violet - like it.
Nancy - Not sure.
Agnes - Yes, but trendy because of the model.
Allegra - Donatella versace's daughter. (sorry I am a shallow fashion bimbo)

chickchickchicken · 03/01/2011 23:43

I really like all the names except Allegra. My favourite from your list would be Mabel

suspiria · 03/01/2011 23:44

Violet, Flora and Allegra are all very nice.
