just ttc at the moment but looking for future inspiration!

we will be using family names as middle names, so imaginary dc2, if a boy, would have Allan as a middle name. I'd love some ideas for potential first names.

my name requirement last time was to pick 'real' names, but ones which are used less often, if that helps. would quite like a Scottish name, couldn't think of one we liked last time, any suggestions welcome though.
thanks in advance. :)

I think Dougal and Murray are fab and would go well with Allan as a middle name.

snapcrunch · 03/01/2011 16:04

i love Murray too actually but someone i know has a wee toddler one, so i wouldn't feel comfortable using it. :(

think i suggested Dougal for previous dc and DH wasn't keen.

two good suggestions though, thanks!

I like Fergus (so much so, I have one Smile). Ours has Alexander as a mn. I also like Fraser

MentalFloss · 03/01/2011 16:55

Ooh I like Murray too!

My DH is Scottish and always wanted something Scottish but we could never agree :( Here are some we considered:

Donal
Alistair
Gregor
Ewan
Connor
Albert (which is actually what we went for but because it was my grandfather's name not because it was scottish)
Angus
Cathal
Duncan
Fergus
Hamish
Hugh
Lachlan
Moray
Mungo
Sholto
Tristram
William

HTH!

Donald
Gregor
Cormac (although Irish, is it Scottish too)
Angus
Fergus
Duncan
Douglas
Bruce/Doogie
Hamish

AnnOnimous · 03/01/2011 18:46

Seoraidh

MistleToad · 03/01/2011 19:01

I love all these scottish names, Fraser is my favourite I think.

Scottish friends have:

Innes
Keir

ValiumTinselton · 03/01/2011 20:39

Obviously Doogie is short for Douglas not Bruce Confused

snapcrunch · 03/01/2011 20:44

quite a few ruled out by people i know or their dcs.

i liked Duncan, but i know a really annoying adult one and DH didn't like the nn Dunc!

when Donald was mentioned, the first thing he said was duck...

Fraser is one of dc1's baby 'friends', his name really suits him. :-) maybe a bit surname for me anyway.

any not so Scottish suggestions that might suit?

thanks again. :)

David
Charles
Edwin
Alexander
Nathaniel
Peter

snapcrunch · 04/01/2011 20:46

thanks shoppingdays.

i actually liked Nathan lots last time but couldn't convince DH, Nathaniel nice too, a bit long i think if that makes sense. don't think Nathan goes with Allan as well as the boy's middle name we had for dc1.

not so keen on the others except David, but that's the name of a family member so wouldn't use that unfortunately. Alexander ok, but put off by someone i knew again.

glad i have no time pressure to think of names yet!

thanks again for all your input.
