italian boys names

Hi so far I have

Matteo and Tommaso

I can't have anything that ends in I and because my side of the family are not italian and all their kids have quite 'normal' english names don't want to be too unusual.

Any suggestions?

Carmine is a really great name - doesn't need a nickname.

My DH really likes Massimo because he had a friend called this when he was younger, but we've never used it.

I went to school with a Luciano, he was very good looking and broke many hearts!

Just watched Zen on BBC1 - Italian based detective series, so it was full of Italian names.

The lead character is called Aurelio which could be shortened to Leo.

My son goes to school with an Antonio and a G.iani

Luca is nice, my friends boy is called Romano so need to steer clear of anything like it . :)

Luca (my favourite), Enzo, Lorenzo, Roberto, Antonio and Marco work really well in both languages.

I think anything that looks like it could be a girl's name in english (nicola, andrea etc) are a big no no.

I would also avoid anything that has a different pronunciation of key letters. For example, I love Luciano but have heard several people pronouce it 'Loo-see-ah-no' which is dire!

Ok, the recently born Italian boys I know include Massimo, Alessandro, Gianluca, Sebastiano, Piero, Mario, Nino, Dino, Franco, Francesco, Bernardo, Bruno, Rosario, Manlio, Samuele, Oscar and Raffaello.

I do love Giuseppe but worry that he would constantly have to spell it out if he wasn't living in Italy. If you have an Italian surname already then it might be easier to have a simpler first name.

My 10 year old DS is called Luca. It was unheard of in the UK then really (although very very popular in Italy) but is apparently more popular now although I have never heard of another one.

Ther only annoying thing is that people tend ot think he is either called Luke or Lucas, but maybe they don't listen properly. Grin

My husband is a Robert, which is a shame because I love Roberto.

Carmine
Luca
Matteo

Where do you live? In the Uk Carmine would be pronounced as it is written as opposed to the far nice 'car-min-ay'. I think that valente would have the same problem.

Would that bother you?

Luca is fab and Matteo would be a close second for me.

I have an Italian husband (and therefore surname) and we named our DS Luca (now 4) which I still love. It's gained in popularity since (although I've only met one other) so it's recognised and accepted in the UK.

He ended up taking after me and having blonde hair and blue eyes so doesn't look Italian at all. As Luca isn't super-Italian it still suits him.

Boysname I live near liverpool so I will have to take that into account I think, certain combinations of vowel sounds annoy me!

i am really growing attached to luca and matteo :)

Hi I am Italian and my husband is English and after looking for all possible names to be pronounced and spelt easily in both languages we went for Teo and love it. We did not give him a long version, as Matteo is nice but far too popular in Italy and we liked it but were not fully convinced by Teodoro.

Teo suits him really well and it is a name strong and full of caracther.

If you will be spending some time in Italy I would also stay clear from names like Tommaso and Leonardo, as they are super popular at the moment.

I also always liked Guido and Pietro but they are not easy to pronounce in English
