Too Cotton/Britten? Or do you think in a few year's time they will be forgotten?

Cotton is spelt Fearne. I don't think it's too unusual that people would assume you'd named your DD after one of the above women.

AnnOnimous · 01/01/2011 12:52

Not a big fan, too much like a botanical specimen for me.

However, I do know one Fern, and I cannot imagine her being anything else, she suits her name. It is just not one I would choose.

Are you looking for a nature type name?

swanandduck · 01/01/2011 16:55

Don't really like it. Sorry.

boogeek · 01/01/2011 16:59

It says Charlotte's Web to me and I love it :)

tebbles · 01/01/2011 18:15

I think of Charlotte's Web as well and I dont really like it.

Rhubarbgarden · 01/01/2011 19:44

Yeah I've loved it since reading Charlotte's Web as a child. And I really like the botanical/nature aspect too.

Love it.

sofaaddict · 01/01/2011 20:43

I like it, don't know any in RL but it isn't too unusual, which is hard to find! Would think more of Brittan than Cotton because of the spelling, but that doesn't put me off!

A1980 · 01/01/2011 21:01

It's a nice anme but it was was DB and SIl's cat's name so for me it will forever be associated with a furry creature!

There was a girl at my school called Fern too. She was about 14 when I met her and I remeber thinking then "nice name". I'd never met one before nor met one since.

Nightstar · 02/01/2011 15:05

I thought of charlottes web first as well. It's such a pretty name. Really feminine

TheMonster · 02/01/2011 15:09

I like it.

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 02/01/2011 15:14

Used to be my nickname! Love it for a little girl but I did outgrow it.

BellBookandCandle · 02/01/2011 15:39

Good name for a labrador.
It's like the increasing popularity of names like Bracken and Briar - fab dog names - crap kids names.

BowTiesAreCool · 02/01/2011 16:15

Not keen to be honest, just reminds me of leafy woodland plants. Sorry.

muminthemiddle · 02/01/2011 19:04

I think there are other Ferns so people will not automatically think of Britton or Cotton.

Nightstar · 02/01/2011 19:19

Leafy Woodland Plants are fabulous! You should use it for that reason alone. And i wish i was brave enough to go with Bracken and Briar - How fabulous are they :-)

nevergoogledragonbutter · 02/01/2011 19:26

Lovely. Another nature names fan here.

ShoppingDays · 03/01/2011 00:40

Cotton. A bit of a strange name IMO.

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2011 00:41

Lovely choice.

Rhubarbgarden · 03/01/2011 22:27

Nightstar I totally agree with you!

Hmm pretty positive reaction on the whole.

Who/what is Fern Cotton.. Confused.

I only know fern as a plant.... Doesn't sound very feminine to my ears, nor will it translate will into other languages (in fact in German it means far!)

freerangeeggs · 04/01/2011 20:08

I think it's a cool name. I'd quite like to be a Fern.

Aims80 · 06/01/2011 10:45

I like it, and I also like Flora!

Komondor · 06/01/2011 10:54

I like it.
