Another plea for girls name help!

We've just found out it's a girl Xmas Grin and I am trying to find more girls names to add to our list... we currently like

Jemima
Tabitha
Anya
Martha
Sofia
Matilda

...possibly with the middle name Bethany. Can you lovely people suggest any others please? We're looking for somethng that's not too common (hence the reason for asking for other ideas - Sofia, Martha and Matilda seem to be really popular at the moment), but nothing too 'out there' either. I would prefer the name to be easy to pronounce from its spelling, having a name myself that I constantly have to spell/correct for people. Easy I know (!)

Thanks in advance

I like Martha but agree it is quite popular. What about Marcia or Marcie that may deserve a revival?

maktaitai · 23/12/2010 20:13

I love love love Tabitha, would have chosen that had dh been at all willing (luckily we had a boy Grin)

Tamar
Miriam
Sonia

nigglewiggle · 23/12/2010 20:14

Anya and Martha are by far the best.

snice · 23/12/2010 20:15

Madelaine
Lucy
Louisa

If its popularity you want to avoid it can be very tricky as names are regional but also have spikes. I've seen people post on here who have give their LO fairly unusual names only to find there are 2 others in their class at school. With that in mind, I'd tend to choose the one you love the most.

FWIW I know

Jemima - 1
Tabitha - 0
Anya - 4
Martha - a few
Sofia/Sophie - quite a few
Matilda - one, do know a few Tillys though

Jemima, Tabitha and Matilda are probably my favourites.

Congratulations and you have great taste in girls names btw.

Meredith Grin I have a 6 month old Meredith and we always get complimented on her name. I like the fact it is not very common but it's a name everyone has heard of and knows how to spell.

Other suggestions...

Marnie
Eliza
Juliet
Sylvie
Tess
Josephine/Josie

GandalfyCarawak · 23/12/2010 21:01

What about Mercy?

crazybutterflylady · 24/12/2010 08:11

Thanks for your replies! DH says no to most of them - grrr - he is very particular. I love Meredith but we have a friend with that name and I don't want her or others to think the baby is named after her. I know I'm probably being daft and ruling out lots of lovely names for this reason!!

My favourite girls name was always Luella - what do you think of this? Our surname has 2 'L's in it too but I think it still sounds nice. DH pulls a face when I suggest it.

Hubby also likes Daisy but does that go with Bethany as a middle name or are there too many eeees? Xmas Confused

onimolap · 24/12/2010 08:17

Luella doesn't do it for me, as it sounds made-up.

How about Tallulah (which I love, but DH vetoed), or Talitha?

crazybutterflylady · 24/12/2010 08:20

Ooh I like Tallulah... will see what DH thinks. Not keen on Talitha, it looks like a spelling mistake Blush

That's a pity, but you're probably right that people would think that; but it is a real name, also - like Tabitha - Biblical (St Mark's Gospel)

GandalfyCarawak · 24/12/2010 13:47

I like Luella!

twinkletoesxmas · 24/12/2010 14:31

I like Luella. My friend's cat is called Daisy. What about Tiana?

expectingno3 · 24/12/2010 14:51

Secretwishescometrue · 24/12/2010 16:52

I just love Sofia doesn't matter how popular just love it :) wouldn't be mad about Luella, Ella is lovely though do you like?
