Hi,
DH and I both like Gil for a boy, we haven't agreed on many so needing to pursue this thought. Is there anything else it could be short for other than Gilbert or Gillan, neither of which I am particularly keen on? ANy bright ideas?
Thanks.
Whizz

Gil is also the Spanish version of Giles; there's also a Scandinavian form Gillis.

Also: Gilbert, Gillespie and Gilroy.

Gilmore
Gilmer
Gildray
Gildroy

Or Gilderoy (Lockhart - Harry Potter).

I like Gilbert a lot. I think Giles with Gil for short is a bit contrived.

Beware of picking a name for the abbreviated version. I picked my dd's name really for the nn, and she now has a totally different nn, given by her older brother! Gilbert may end up Bertie! And Giles, Jai or something.
