Two choices - Sophie or Maisie?

Hi - new to the site - bit late considering due on 27th Dec! Im mid name nightmare - have always loved and wanted to call any daughter I have Sophie - however now I see it is the top name im wondering if I should? I wouldnt like to think she'd be in a class of another 5 Sophies you know? Maisie has been my second choice -after many others before that....but baby daddy not too keen - and we had both loved Sophie. What to do?? Maybe a Mumsnet Poll? any thoughts appreciated. Ta much!

Call her Sophie.

I only know one and she's 30. I know 3 Maisie/Maisys under five and one over 80.

Plus it's prettier and suits a grown up better.

JooLoo · 22/12/2010 20:45

Yes Sophie. Both will have the same popularity in school (which I don't think will be too bad) but Sophie is a classier name which will stand the test of time much better.

Sophie is a lovely name, you both like it, so go for it!

I have a DD called Sophie, she's the only one in her entire school of 180 kids! So not as common as people think.

Congrats on your baby girl x

LittleYellowTeapot · 22/12/2010 21:05

Sophie is a lovely name - sophisticated and feminine without being twee.

Not keen on Maisie

Maisie is a mouse

tumshie73 · 22/12/2010 21:10

Oh thanks so much everyone! A resounding hooray for Sophie then! Mind made up - magic! Thank you all!

Sophie, lovely name or perhaps change it to Sophia ...

LynetteScavo · 23/12/2010 16:39

Sophie. Timeless Classic.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/12/2010 16:43

Glad you've gone with Sophie. Where I live I only know one Sophie and she is 10. Know quite a few Maisie's though.

Much prefer Sophie.

Congratulations and let us know how it all goes Xmas Smile

Sophie is gorgeous. Dh didn't like it. Sad but I love it so a little jealous.

onimolap · 24/12/2010 07:09

Just to counter-balance, there are loads of Sophies (also Sophia and Sofia) at DCs school - most frequent girls name from year 5 all the way down to Reception.

But if it's a name you've always loved, the possibility that there will be others shouldn't put you off.

wfrances · 24/12/2010 07:14

ive got a sophie, shes 14 only know 2 more.
my niece is maisie shes 5 ,havnt heard of any others.

LtEveDallas · 24/12/2010 07:18

I have a Maisie, but strangely I prefer Sophie (or rather Sophia). Maisie is a lovely name, but very little girlish. Sophia will be called Sophie as a child, but can go for the older, more classy Sophia when she is older.

I didn't think of that, and sometimes I wish I had.

PressureDrop · 24/12/2010 07:45

Sophie. It has a more classic, less twee feel.

jellybeans · 24/12/2010 11:21

Sophie

but I like them both.

ilovesprouts · 24/12/2010 11:22

sophie. i love that name, dd is a sophie {grin]

ilovesprouts · 24/12/2010 11:25

sophie is a popular name still go for it my sophie is 18

Snowqueen38 · 24/12/2010 11:29

Biased here because I am mum to a 9yo Sophie.

There are a few about but actually only 3 in her whole school and of the 5 schools she ha attended she has always been the only Sophie n her class.

Maisie is up and coming. I think in years to come there will be more Maisies than Sophies.

I know of 6 Masies/Maisey/Maisy's under 6.

Goodluck btw.

jacksgrannie · 24/12/2010 11:41

Another vote for Sophie.

Lovely, classic name, won't date and suitable for any profession/life-style.

Also the huge added bonus of being easy to spell.

Not too many about - only know of one.

Maisie is a bit kitchen-maid, imo and will date.

stuffedmk · 24/12/2010 12:20

Sophie, one of my favourites if I had needed a girls name.

bambiandthumper · 28/12/2010 18:47

Sophie
Maisie is awful, and will date
