Beautiful (and unusual!)Also like the fact it looks easy to pronounce, little chance of teacher stumbling over it during the register every morning.. Smile

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 19/12/2010 21:00

i think "that's what my dad called one of his foals". sorry.

ShoppingDays · 19/12/2010 21:15

Where does it come from? It sounds made up. Prefer just plain Skye.

AllieW · 19/12/2010 21:16

Kyla is prettier. Not keen, sorry.

sum04 · 19/12/2010 21:16

It's not made up. It's very popular over in the States, as is Summer, which i called my daughter 6 years ago and now it is becoming very popular over in the Uk.

Seems to be a different spelling of the dutch name Schuyler.

christmaseve · 19/12/2010 21:53

Not sure, sounds made up and it might be ridiculed, so would say no.

A1980 · 19/12/2010 22:02

Are you sure you don't mean Skyler?

Either way I don't really like it and it reminds of this little terror

nelly83 · 19/12/2010 22:09

I love it. I think it's pretty and feminine. Also love Skye. I think the original spelling is Skyler. But I prefer it spelt the way you have.

PublicHair · 19/12/2010 22:10

awful,sorry. sounds made up

upahill · 19/12/2010 22:13

Sounds like you haven't finished saying the name.

Also when I saw the title I wanted to say 'All aboard the skylark'

Silly I know.

onimolap · 19/12/2010 22:18

I think Summer has been around for a while, owing to Aussie influence; I know one who is 10, and I think the Neighbours' character appeared around then.

Personally, Skyla doesn't do it for me (sounds/looks like a trying-too-hard made-up name). I prefer Skye, or even Kylie.

scottishmummy · 19/12/2010 22:19

trying too hard.wasnt it charlotte satc baby name

arizonagirl · 20/12/2010 12:53

Love it!! Have just called my beautiful new son Skyler and absolutely adore his name!!! And it is a name that really grows on you. I think Skylar is the usual spelling for a girl. A couple of people have said "oh, like Tyler" which I don't like but I am very happy with our choice. And as many other mumsnetters know it took me a long time to decide - see thread about Beauden (our original choice) Good luck and have fun.

Nightstar · 20/12/2010 16:00

I like Skyla for a girl, it's pretty and feminine. Unfortunatly it is also the name of our cat, sorry

lifeinCrimbo · 20/12/2010 16:52

Makes me think of Sylar, from Heroes..
or skylark, which is quite nice sounding.

TheGoddessBlossom · 20/12/2010 16:54

I really really like it. Xmas Smile

mozette · 20/12/2010 17:20

rofl @ Sylar from Heroes!

readywithwellies · 20/12/2010 20:08

Gillian McKeith's kid is called Skyler. Nuff said.

weimy · 20/12/2010 20:53

I like it, I know dogs called skye and Skyla but don't think that should matter if you like it. My two female dogs are called Freya and Darcy lots of people have children with the same name :)

muminthemiddle · 21/12/2010 14:00

I don't like it and I know one. It was the name of a female character from an 80s film but I cannot remember which one.

grendel · 21/12/2010 14:06

Yeah, I immediately thought of the cross-eyed baddie from Heroes too.

Don't like it, sorry. Sounds unfinished and made-up.

ShatnersBassoon · 21/12/2010 14:10

It makes me think of the babysitter on South Park's horrible boyfriend. Nice.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 21/12/2010 14:13

Skyla is Dutch in origin, though I think the spelling is different, it means 'shelter' or 'shield'.

It is the name of my best friends dd (8), I think it is lovely.

OnEdge · 21/12/2010 14:13

Don't like it, sounds like something you plug in the back of the telly.
