Name to go with xxx-Marie

DH has only two names for our girl to be. One is Marie but I don't like it on its own. He likes Marie-Claire but I can't go with that for obvious reasons. Any suggestions other than Ann-Marie (which I really don't like) all welcomed. He's not budging so need to come up with something!

What about Mairi or Maria rather than Marie? I know a Mairi whose middle name is Claire and she sometimes calls herself Mairi-Claire and really suits it and she is gorgeous! If you liked the first name more then you might feel happier about having a middle name that your daughter could use if she wanted, rather than a hyphenated first name?!

Xmas Smile

Having lived with a double barrel my whole life please don't do it. I have hated it then entire time and am even less comfortable with it as an adult than I was as a child!

Northernrose · 16/12/2010 21:12

Or what about Marie/Maria/Mairi-Beth or
Marie-Anna/Anne
Marie-Joy (a bit too like merry-joy maybe?!) or
Marie-Grace or
Marie-Hope? A bit heavy on the virtues I know but sound ok!

Greenwing · 16/12/2010 23:44

I know a girl called Marie-Therese which sounds pretty. They are English but pronounce it in the French way 'Marry Te-rares'.

Or how about Marianne?

Otherwise, some ideas from France:

Marie-Louise
Marie-Elisabeth
Marie-Elise
Marie-Fleur
Marie-Gabrielle
Marie-Helene
Marie-Isabelle
Marie-Madeleine
Marie-Nicole
Marie-Noelle (Christmassy!)
Marie-Rose

Otherwise just 'Marie, Mary, or Maria' - it's a beautiful name in any form!

Marie would be nice as a middle name without a hyphen.

Lois Marie
Anna Marie
Cara Marie
Zoe Marie
Tara Marie
Georgia Marie
Victoria Marie
Harriet Marie
Julia Marie
Laura Marie
Natalie Marie

I know a lovely Marie-Angelique - which I think is very pretty.

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 17/12/2010 14:15

Virgin-Marie? Xmas Grin

I met a baby Mariana the other day which is a beeeaaauuuuuuooootiful name IMO.

AussieMum2Be · 17/12/2010 16:09

My Birth name is Emma-Marie, but I use my middle name and not my birth name, Mum liked Lisa-Marie Presley but the name Emma was apparently very popular at the time, so she changed it to Emma-Marie.

Ephiny · 17/12/2010 16:24

What's wrong with Marie-Claire, I think that's very nice actually!

I think Marie-Anne or Anne-Marie are both pretty, but no good if you don't like them. What about Marie-Elise or Marie-Helene? Marie-Rose? Rosemarie? :)

AllieW · 17/12/2010 16:25

Marie-Claire is a magazine...

5GoldenFimbos · 17/12/2010 16:26

Marie-Luisa?

Surely you couldn't have Marie-Rose? Offers round the prawn cocktail Xmas Grin

Ephiny · 17/12/2010 16:39

Well clearly I have no idea about anything, but I'd probably just use Marie-Claire or Marie-Rose anyway if you like them, because they're pretty names, and you can't veto every name that's ever been used for anything or anyone else! Marie-Claire isn't a particularly dubious magazine or anything, is it? There were lots and lots of Jackies when I was growing up, and that was a popular girls magazine (no idea if it still exists).

Marie-Fleur is nice actually, though a lot of these Marie- names sound very French! Marie-Jeanne is nice, or Marie-Ange, though maybe don't work so well if you don't pronounce the french way.

Thanks everyone. Love Marianna and Marie Helene.

I was thinking of Sylvie-Marie but is that too ee-ee IYSWIM?

IMO anything-Marie sounds very dates - the post Lisa-Marie rash of them ensured that.

What's the other name he likes? Or are you using that as a middle name?

PlonkerForLifeNotJustChristmas · 17/12/2010 17:08
