Eden for a girl

Just trying to find out if I'm crazy, DH has decided that my taste is in my arse not great. I love the name Eden - would be either Eden Kate or Eden Rose after grandmothers on either side as middle name.

DH first told me it's not an actual name (Hmm, I'm aware that it is) but now tells me that it doesn't go with DD1 (Sasha Isobel).

What do you think of Eden for a girl? Does it go with Sasha?

I don't like it myself.

strumpet82 · 07/12/2010 10:12

I have to agree, I don't like it myself either. But remember, this is yours and DH's child, your two opinions are what matters.

MamaVoo · 07/12/2010 10:13

I think it sounds ok with Sasha. Nothing wrong with it at all and at least it will be different from the 3000 Evie's and Maisie's she'll go to school with.

PracticallyImperfectInEveryWay · 07/12/2010 10:14

Grin DH feeling validated already!

Thanks strumpet :)

i know someone who has a 8 month old irl called Eden Rose. It is beautiful but not my choice

FullaDoll · 07/12/2010 10:18

I love the name Eden and had it on my list for a long time. However, somebody on here suggested it was a bit common and chavy.. not sure if this is true?

exexpat · 07/12/2010 10:24

I know a very nice and quite posh teenage girl called Eden. I always suspected her parents of naming her after the Everything But The Girl album...

PracticallyImperfectInEveryWay · 07/12/2010 10:52

It's evened out now :). Thanks all for your time and feedback. I still love it but get the feeling from DH's reaction that it will turn into one on my list of 'if only I was naming the baby by myself' Grin.

I like Eden, my DP sounds like yours though. He kept suggesting Emily as an alternative. Not the same at all!!

DD would've been Lexie if my taste was allowed free reign.

LetLoveRule · 07/12/2010 11:03

Boy's name? 3 Edens in DSs class - all boys!

nymphadora · 07/12/2010 11:04

I know an Eden. I quite like it

Hullygully · 07/12/2010 11:09

I like it. I know a poshish 10 mth old Eden. Well, she's not v posh yet, but the parents are a bit.

fel1x · 07/12/2010 11:45

I only know boy Edens

SpringHeeledJack · 07/12/2010 11:47

I know a boy Eden- my lovely nephew, so my judgement is a bit skewed

I sort of like unisex names, and it's very sweet- tho admit I was a bit Hmm when my sis first announced it

ShoppingDays · 07/12/2010 12:09

I know it's used as a first name, but it makes me think of the Garden of Eden... so it sounds too place-namey to me.

How about Elodie, Eve, Edith, Ivy, Eloise?

Tolalola · 07/12/2010 12:16

I think of it as a boy's name. I like it, but it sounds a bit odd for a girl, to me.

GRW · 07/12/2010 12:41

I love it and it sounds like a girls name to me.

I've never heard of Eden used for a boy - the two I know are girls.

memphis83 · 07/12/2010 12:59

i love the name Eden, if i had a girl i was going to call her Eden, older people did point out it used to be a boys name, couldnt bring myself to name my boy it though!

anonymousbird · 07/12/2010 13:01

I only know one boy Eden.
Not sure for a girl... possibly, but a bit wierd.

Also, though, the only Sasha I know is also a boy!!!

So my opinion may be worth nothing at all!

Xmas Smile

My DH was going to called Eden but my MIL's father wouldn't let her as he said it was a sissy name for a big chap (my DH weighed 10 pounds 12 ounces)and probably not the type of name you would come across in rural Ireland in the 1970s. Pity as a nice name but I think more of a boy's name.

QueeferSantaland · 07/12/2010 13:08

I know of 2 boy Edens and 2 girl Edens.

I like it.

TabithaTwitchet · 07/12/2010 13:11

It makes me think of the book "Eden Close" by Anita Shreve. Which I think slightly puts me off the name, as it is not a very happy tale - the girl in the book is called Eden.
