Use sil's baby name as a middle name? Ok or not?

My sister in law has just had a baby girl and has used the name I had planned as a middle name. It's a family name, been in my family for 400 years. Would it be awful to still use it as a middle name if I have a girl in Jan? We don't live in the same area. Would that piss you off?

no. Just say to her, I hope you dont mind but I love the name ..... too.

Most people would take it as a compliment, and besides its a middle name not first.

No not if its a family name, my cousin, my dd and me all have my mum's first name as our middle name. It was the name of my grandfather's mother.

It's fine, can't see any problem with it especially as it's a family name anyway.

I agree - if it's a family name then why not? I would explain that to her though.

Thanks, I will bring it up and see how she reacts.

I gave my DD my gran's name as a middle name. My sister did the same with her DD. No bad feelings here. It's a family name so not like copying is it. Mind you I was a bit Hmm when my BIL said they were considering naming their DD the same name as my DD coz they like it so much. That would be a bit weird imo. And rather confusing for everyone, especially as our DC saw eachother on a weekly basis and the girls were 9 months apart in age.

Definitely fine, especially as it is a family name - it's your family too!

If it's a family name you can definitely both use it. My family reuse the same names over and over again. I actually like the connections it creates.
