Sonny for a middle name?

Hi all, just wondering, is Sonny ok for a middle name? I love the name but for me it sounds too nicknamey to use as a first name so we're opting for something a bit more conventional.

Plus, sounds cheesy, but our DS will be our sun(son)shine!

Your opinions please! Thanks

Absolutely fantastic!!! I adore this name, would also love to use it as a first name but agree with you, sounds a little too nicknamey for us (well dh doesnt like it anyway) so for a middle name would be gorgeous.

Dont think its cheesy, think its sweet.

Yes, yes, yes!!!!!!!

I don't really understand it as a name. What does it mean? That he is someone's son? It is the kind of word that used to be used by policemen when someone is up to no good. Sorry, I just don't get why you'd want to use it.

sparkle12mar08 · 05/12/2010 08:52

Vile, sorry. I can never look at a child called Sonny without thinking what on earth possessed the parents.

As a middle name it is fine. No-one ever uses middles name, so why not have something slightly unusual.

I like it.

mimimomma · 06/12/2010 09:42

I really like it, and as Komondor says, it's for a middle name so will only be used very infrequently.....so therefore I think you can push your taste a bit more with a middle name!

I know a Sonny, and it's a lovely name.

AitchTwoOh · 06/12/2010 09:46

i know three Sonnys, would you believe? it is growing on me...

tummytickler · 06/12/2010 11:58

I know 2 Sonnys - it is quite sweet.
However, as it is a mn, I would be very very tempted to go with Sunny (as he is your Sunshine).
In fact - Sunshine is on my list of mn's for dc5 Blush

Firawla · 06/12/2010 13:50

i know quite a few people with that as a first name and one as a middle name, so quite popular but if you like it then go for it, why not

lilly13 · 06/12/2010 21:39

sounds too casual. i suppose one does not have to ever use a middle name if one dislikes it, so you are being fair to the child.
