Girls first name for unusual family name

I know, very premature at only 8ish weeks but thinking of girls names. The family name that I want to continue is Sharland but not as a first name. I've been thinking Ella Sharland but seems Ella's are everywhere! Want something traditional and quite short that prefererably can't be shortened. Over to you...

That is a really nice idea!

Ella is very popular at the moment but is nice none the less.

I like:

Emma
Cora
Ava
Lucy
Anna
Molly
Elsa
Clara
Julia
Leah
Sarah
Alice
Lois
Tess
Ivy

HTH!

I will second Alice and add Rose and Grace for my contribution

Ella is a lovely name!

How about: Mary, Jane, Margot, Helen, Sara, Karen, Rosa, Sadie, Gina, Faye, Tessa, Claire, Anna?

4thtimelucky · 04/12/2010 10:21

mental - ooh some good ones there. I quite like Elsa.

veg - Alice is a definite no - dp's grandmother and she was nuts. Shame because I quite like it!

I do love Elsa - every Elsa I've known is feisty and gorgeous!

MuffinMouse · 04/12/2010 10:25

Not premature at all. I was the same!

I've suggested uncommom names that I think work with Sharland a lot of very short names are quite popular IYSWIM. How about:

Anna
Marie
Ffion
Estelle
Faith
Niamh

Less traditional
Lulu
Allegra

I wouldn't worry about the shortening my children have 3 or 4 syllable names and stick to the full version.

sorry about the nutty aunt connection.
Certainly a short name is best. Anna is a good solid name. Can't shift the Born Free connection with Elsa though my best friend from primary school was Ailsa which most people pronounced the same way.
