I'm struggling so much with boys names! What do you think of these two....

Laurence (Larry for short)
Nathaniel (Nat for short)

Thanks!

I really like those names. I wanted a Nathaniel if I had a boy, but dh put his foot down, luckily we had a girl instead!

Violet5 · 02/12/2010 11:38

I like Laurence, but i like Laws, for short Smile

thisisyesterday · 02/12/2010 11:38

Nathaniel, definitely

BangingNoise · 02/12/2010 11:39

I like them, expecially Laurence.

HappyVeggie · 02/12/2010 11:39

I really love both names but prefer nicknames Laurie and Nate for them.

Highlandgirl · 02/12/2010 12:04

Laurence but with a 'W' and not a 'U'..do really like Nathaniel too.

Good names!

philly82 · 02/12/2010 12:10

I really like them both - quite versatile - good as they are and options for shortening
but my favourite nicknames would be Laurie and Nathan/Nate...
Laurence definitely with a U in my opinion..

BearCrimble · 02/12/2010 12:11

Agree with HappyVeggie.

Komondor · 02/12/2010 14:06

I like Laurence, but Laurie for short.

I also like Nathaniel. This is DH's name, but everyone calls him Nat.

AphraBen · 02/12/2010 15:43

Nathaniel is best
but agree, Laurie is great - though it sounds exactly like Lori which can cause confusion.

LetThereBeRock · 02/12/2010 15:44

I love Nathaniel,though dislike Nat.

Larry is awful. Laurence is ok.

PsecretSantead · 02/12/2010 17:22

Both nice!

BelligerentGhoul · 02/12/2010 17:24

Love Laurence but hate Larry. DD1 now 15 would have been Laurie if a boy.

Nathaniel okay but not fond of Nat.

minipie · 02/12/2010 17:34

Like both but definitely Laurie not Larry.

lilly13 · 02/12/2010 17:39

Definitely Nat

Lonnie · 02/12/2010 17:47

Laurence over Nathaniel imo

rachel234 · 02/12/2010 19:19

Laurence is the feminine version of Laurent. I know a lovely Laurence in her 30s. Don't like Larry at all, I'm afraid.

Nathaniel is much more masculine sounding.

mopsyflopsy · 02/12/2010 21:22

Laurence is indeed a girls' name in France.

How do you pronounce Nathaniel - Na-th-anyal or Nat-anyal?

MogTheForgetfulCat · 02/12/2010 21:32

Like both, but prefer Laurie as a nickname - not keen on Larry at all. Like Nathaniel and Nat, not keen on Nate.

onimolap · 02/12/2010 21:36

I like both, and prefer Nathaniel (Nate). I'd definitely spell Laurence with a "u" and like Laurie as a nn. I wouldn't worry about the French female name as the Anglophone male version is well established (and who ever worried about Jean being a female name here, but a male one there?)

mopsyflopsy · 02/12/2010 21:42

In an every globabalising world I would worry about giving my ds a name that is firmly established as a girls' name in our neighbouring country. Who knows where our children may live or work one day?

mopsyflopsy · 02/12/2010 21:43

sorry, ever globalising

ShoppingDays · 02/12/2010 21:55

Both nice but prefer Nathaniel.

Eddie123 · 04/12/2010 16:08

Thanks for all your replies. It seems that 'Larry' as a nn is not a popular choice! I love Laurie too.

Mopsyflopsy - I personally would pronounce Nathaniel as Nath-anyal
