Hi, I love classic names and have a long list of boys names, but a much shorter girls list. I'd love to hear your suggestions for classic/traditional girls names that won't date easily to add to my list. Thanks :)

OP I agree that classic girl names are lovely (my DD has 2 for middle names) but you may want to think carefully if you don't want them to date. Alice/Charlotte/Hannah are very in vogue at the moment and are likely to date the child to the 00s and 10s.

I don't think Alice, Charlotte and Hannah are any more in Vogue than normal (imo) they haven't dated yet. Classic names do not date. The like's of Ruby and Evie will date very quickly...

Thanks for these - some lovely suggestions :). I have been out for the day and am very surprised to come back to see this thread has made discussion of the day!

Some of these names are my love but can't use list as they are already used in my family or close circle of friends, such Alexandra, Elizabeth and Katherine, so you are definitely on the right track (not you WherecanIhaid Grin. I also love Anna.

I'm not even sure if this fits my own criteria, but does anyone have any views on Elissa? Also, is it too close to Elizabeth (my DSIS's DD who we see a lot of).

Please keep them coming :)

Sorry - I mean some of these names are on my love but can't use list (metaphorically speaking as I don't really have a separate list for these!)

Threeinthebed I think now we need a classic boys list too...! Some brilliant names on here. Do hope you find the 'one'

Not really hugely keen on Elissa...!

BelligerentGhoul · 01/12/2010 20:10

I didn't 'done' them - I 'did' them. :)

Not fond of Phoebe tbh.

Emma is lovely.

Not overly taken by Elissa tbh. How about Esther or Evelyn?
