Please help me decide on DD2's name!

Have namechanged to be able to provide a bit more info to help you help me!

I'm 29wks pg and was feeling all smug about how I'd chosen DD2's name at about 8wks, but I've become more and more unsure and it just doesn't seem to be 'the one' anymore!

Both DH and I loved 'Juliet' but at almost the same time as I was starting to wobble about it, DH came out and said he wasn't sure about it anymore either. Argh!

Our new list is basically:

Sophia
Olivia
Hollie
Lois

DD1 is called Gabriella, our surname starts with H and only has one syllable - it's quite close to 'House' just to give you more to work with.

My total favourite from the list now is Hollie, but just worried it will sound strange with her surname also starting with an 'H' and being quite short. Also not sure how well it goes with DD1. DH's favourite is Lois.

What do you think? Any other name suggestions are also welcome! Smile

Rosa? primrose? or Violet?

Iris?

pointydog · 24/11/2010 22:42

My favourite would be Julia

melodyangel · 24/11/2010 22:45

Another vote for Vivienne. Think it sounds lovely with Gabriella. I think Juliet works really well too!

Harriet
Sylvia

NotAnotherNewNappy · 24/11/2010 23:02

Sorry but Juliet is lovely and goes wonderfully with Gabriella. Stop wobbling and go back to your first instincts!

diddl · 25/11/2010 08:32

Juliet-with Lois as middle name?

wigglesrock · 25/11/2010 08:58

I love the name Holly but is completely undoable with surname, I also think it's a Christmas baby name. I have my baby names picked out, am 28 weeks, but am also having a bit of a wobble. Funny enough the name I now love is Julia Smile.

AbFabT · 25/11/2010 09:27

I like Angelica to go with Gabriella.

thirtysomething · 25/11/2010 09:31

Sophia nicest from your list by far.

Also love Juliet.

Other suggestions:

Harriet
Laura/Lauren
Elena
Thea

wigglesrock · 25/11/2010 09:35

Meant to say my 2 dds are called names from your list, so great minds Smile

Hedwig3 · 25/11/2010 11:34

Gabriella and...

Genevieve
Evangeline
Angelica
Clementine
Arabella
Miranda

If the idea of not using Juliet really upsets you, then maybe that is the one Smile

ShoppingDays · 25/11/2010 11:42

Juliet is very nice. Like Sophia best of your other choices. How about Gabriella and...

Anastasia
Beatrice
Henrietta
Isabella
Katherine
Josephine
Louisa
Octavia
Penelope
Sarah
Constance
Serena
Violet
Rebecca

Sorry I haven't come back, DH nicked the laptop, then RL stuff got in the way!

Thanks so much for all your suggestions! I didn't expect so many replies.

One thing is clear from what you've all said - Hollie is not going to work! Smile It's been binned now and have a new, very different shortlist from what we had before. From all the suggestions that were given, most were knocked back by DH - I never knew he was so fussy!

We now really like Melissa, although we're also still thinking about Elena, Paloma, Rosalie, Rebecca - although I think I'll always harbour a secret hankering for Hollie! I suppose we could always have a 'Hollie the Hamster' one day if the desire never leaves! Grin

MelinaM · 26/11/2010 23:36

I'd stick with your original Juliette, it truly is a beautiful name! ..and I agree sounds so lovely next to Gabriella!
Paloma and Rebecca are nice, not a fan of Melissa, for some reason it makes me think of irritating American girlsGrin ..sorry to any Melissa's out there! x

LoopyLoops · 26/11/2010 23:44

Juliette.

Eliana?
Lucia?
Francesca?
Cara?
Marilena?
Valentina?

MelinaM · 26/11/2010 23:45

Valentina is beautiful LoopyLoops Smile

AndHerNameWillBe · 27/11/2010 00:05

Agree that Valentina is a beautiful name but DD2 is due in Feb, and depending on her timing, it could work out to be a bit cheesy! Grin

Eliana, Francesca and Cara are all names within our circle of friends and family so wouldn't really look at these.

Not sure about Marilena, never really heard that one before.

Fiorenza
Ottavia
Viviana
Mariabella
Fiorella / Fiorenza
Carmela
Silavana

MonkeySee · 27/11/2010 19:37

Paloma v cool.

ItalianLady · 27/11/2010 19:40

If you go for Hollie as a middle name please spell it with a Y or your dd will spend her life correcting people.

JJ17 · 27/11/2010 19:49

What about Mariel? I love Juliet, but Juliette is the French version.

Cara is lovely - esp if is Cara Mia (my darling).

BarbieLovesKen · 27/11/2010 22:55

Oh I think Juliet and Gabriella are absolutely stunning together. They are equally elegant and beautiful and classic. Oh God, now I want to have 2 more girls just so I can call them Juliet and Gabriella Grin

lisalisa · 27/11/2010 22:58

Just had to post to say my dd1's name is Sophia Gabriella ( Gabriella being her middle name) so I approve of Sophia as your next choice obviously!!!

BikeRunSki · 27/11/2010 23:10

Love Juliet - goes well with Gabriella too.

Hollie - not with an H surname, or more than a month away from Christmas.

Sophia - OK

Olivia - You know this is the number 1 name at mo don't you?

Lois - Does n't do anything for me, Superman associations, commonly mispronounced.

Dysgu · 27/11/2010 23:43

DD2 is Gabriella Eve so I already agree with your taste in names!

DD1 is Florence Amelie if that is of any help - although she goes by Florrie most of the time.

I agree with PPs against alliterative names - I grew up with one so vetoed any possibilities even though I liked many names starting with L (surname!)

I do, however, think your original Juliet is a lovely name.

creepycrawleychyler · 27/11/2010 23:54

I like Abigail, but I think it's maybe too similar ro Gabriella?

From your list I prefer Sophia.
