Can't decide - do you have any further suggestions

Ok - so we don't know the sex of little one, and at 39+5 I don't have that long left!!!!

For Girls names we have a lovely short list that we both like -

  • Evelyn (nn Evie)
  • Caitlin
  • Ella

But for the boys we are struggling. For months we had settled on -

  • Brandon
  • Joshua
  • Ethan

However, recently I have gone off these completely and thing that Brandon and Ethan in particular sound very American and possible a bit of a 'fad' and that in 10 years I will wish we had chosen something different.

So we went back to the drawing board and came up with -

  • Jackson
  • Maxwell/ Max

DP is keen that if it's a boys name we have something that is 'quite manly and grown up but can have a shorter name for when he is younger' - his words not mine!!!

So what do you think? Any suggestions for further boys names (surname begins with H)? Any comments on either shortlist?

Thanks GPPE

I think Jackson sounds american!

I like Joshua and Max

Psammead · 23/11/2010 13:55

I like Maxwell. (your surname isn't House, is it?)

Love Ella!

Evelyn and Ethan are my favourites altho Caitlin is lovely too! I really don't think Ethan is at all American but would think Brandon which immediately makes me think of 90210 and Jackson which makes me think of the twilight actor (i know I watch too much t.v....) they have an American feel about them... How bout Evan as an alternative?

MelinaM · 23/11/2010 14:24

Max is a lovely name, the others do sound very 'American'!
I like Ella or Caitlin (kate) for a girl, Evie is a VERY popular name at the moment, oh well good luck deciding! x

rachel234 · 23/11/2010 14:27

Evie/Ella/Jack/Max are all VERY popular and may fall out of favour and date soon.

I do like Caitlin very much. Not keen on any of your boys' names, I'm afraid.

Brandon and Jackson sound American I don't think any of your other boys names do though. Joshua is a great name and fits your criterea well. Also

Samuel
Daniel
Joseph
Jacob

Love Caitlin.

Joshua is best of your boy list. Like Jonathan and Nicholas too.

giantpurplepeopleeater · 23/11/2010 17:53

Thanks guys!

I don't know why I have the hang up about things sounding 'american'. Its silly really - I just don't want the name to sound to 'hollywood' so yes, maybe Jackson is out also!!!!

Keep all your suggestions and comments coming....

I like Samuel and Daniel but DP not into them! Oh and no - my surname is not House - although that would be great!!!

Isaac...? nn Izy (I-zee) or Zak, and nice and manly for when he's older? Means laughter or to laugh :)

ThatllDoPig · 23/11/2010 22:05

Jackson is the most American of the lot. There is a place (in the Johnny Cash song) and of course Michael Jackson.

My faves out of your list are
Caitlin and Max

Good luck with the birth and the baby!
