Girls name thoughts please!

Thoughts welcome on the following first names for a girl:

Harper

Vesper

Darcey

I seem to see a few posts on other forums about Darcey for a girl becoming very common (as in popular I think). Don't want a common name but live overseas so don't think it would matter.

Vesper is partly from my love of the Bond books and partly a link to my mother's and grandmother's middle name of Vesta. Mentioned to OH that I wanted Vesta as a middle name and he arrived at Vesper as a first name without realising the Bond connection. Also means evening star which I LOVE.

Thoughts? I know they are not for everyone and I do plan on a "normal" middle name in case she hates her first. Should also say that I have a normal first name and I hated being one of hundreds at school!

Ok, I'm biased but my favourite is Darcey. To me, it looks and sounds pretty.

I actually like Harper too. It sounds American but so what?

I'm not keen on Vesper though. But it's not up to me.

Melezka, I only just realised the link. My MN name comes from the musical Wicked - I am in no way coordinated enough to be a dancer

My DD is a Darcey. Actually, her middle name is Elizabeth, but it wasn't until weeks after she was born that we realised the very obvious P&P blunder link. Oops. Anyway, we still think it's pretty, and it looks lovely written down.

You were wondering a bit further down the thread about whether you should worry about what people think...
We picked an unusual name for DS and I knew lots of people really hate it (thanks MN ) We got a few funny looks, raised eyebrows and even one downright rude comment! But we loved the name, and it was the only boys name we loved and agreed on.

When they arrive and are called by thier name, it isn't odd any more it's just them (although it did take me a few months weeks to stop sounding apologetic when I introduced him! Make sure you say it confidently!)

I didn't realise this thread was still going. If anyone is interested in Chat I put up a post last night regarding MIL stating how much she hated Vesper and Darcey was too Arsey Darcey. Says she is going to use another name if we go with those and bloody DH is now coming up with new names.

FWIW Vesta was the roman goddess of the hearth (I think... something to do with fire and the home) which is why some matches are Vestas.

Begonyabampot I think the line in the bond book is "most people hate it, I'm just used to it" but my memory could be faulty.

Darcey Elizbaeth is beautiful Dancing. Elizabeth is also a family name so would work for me too (sorry if youre against a stranger "stealing!")

Whata - that's what I did too, imagine my delight when DD's name was one of the names!
