Hi everyone, currently pregnant with number two ,20weeks. Already have a ds billy, and yet again this time round have a fair few girls names, but hardly any boys.. What are you thoughts on Sadie, Edie, Polly or Effie as a 1st name for a girl.. And possibilities for middle names, Amber/Amberley, Madeline/Madelynn, Elizabeth,Rose,Grace. Any boys names that would go with billy also huge help! Quite like teddy or kit..

I love all your names!(except Sadie & Elizabeth, sorry)
Effie Rose
Effie Pearl?
Madelaine Polly - maybe as a second name, as two 'll' names for children might be a bit much
Edie Grace

And the boys:
Dexter
Jude
Mac

On the right lines?

Really don't like effie, in our house it would turn into f'ing. For different reasons, I don't like Polly or Sadie but really like Elizabeth (Betty) and Kitty.
Not much help I know.

randomimposter · 18/11/2010 12:44

aww I have a Billy. (William but Billy for now)

I am one of those lunatics who does think that sibling names need to run togther ok, not too matchy matchy but at least need to sound sensible when said together.

So of your list would discount Polly... sounds odd to my ear.

fave of what you've listed would be Sadie Grace, or Edie Rose.

I like Jem (Jerome) for a boy. Or Tess for a girl.

Olympickney · 18/11/2010 12:44

Sadie is very sweet. Traditionally a nickname for Sarah, I think, but lovely on it's own.

Love Polly.

I don't like Edie or Effie, I'm afriad, unless they were nicknames for long names. They're a bit cutesy for my tastes.

Twilightfan1 · 18/11/2010 12:50

im one of those who thinks middle names should be equal to or shorter than the first.
Im not really a fan of the first names you have suggested for a girl (sorry, no offence iintended) but how about Amber Rose??
As for boys, how about Joe or Tom?

Ineedsomesleep · 18/11/2010 12:54

Not a great fan of girls names ending with the ee sound sorry so we'll have to differ on that one. Quiet like Madeline, Elizabeth and Rose though.

katiepotatie · 18/11/2010 12:55

Love Sadie and Edie, both on our list for last dc who turned out to be a wee boy Smile
How about Charlie or Stanley for boys?

meg89 · 18/11/2010 13:00

Thanks everyone! Did think that too about having billy and polly.. And my dp doesnt really like it anyway. Def on the right lines with the boys names expectingno3 just not sure if i like any enough. But liking effie pearl or rose! Thought it would be mixed with effie, but just think its a bit different, did also think about the f'ing issue! But was hoping that wouldnt be a prob! And jollster Do really like edie rose and sadie grace, or other way around, and tess is also a name ive toyed with actually. betty and kitty v sweet too1 so hard!

Yes stanley is a name my dp mentioned last night actually and do quite like that! Must have similar taste : ) I do get people not liking or getting fed up of the 'ee' sounding names,as they are the most popular and are everywhere, but all my favourites seem to be those sorts of names! so makes it difficult to be different! If that makes sense.. Cant find a name not ending with that sound that i like enough yet, although do like madeline,or other variations.

Spike
Quinn
Quincy
Otto
Miles / Milo
Max

(note I am left handed so flicking through 'cool names for babies' backwards!) Will get to A in a bit...

meg89 · 18/11/2010 19:24

hahaha, thankyou! Like max, thats one on our list.

Edie, Sadie, Tess, Betty and Kitty are gorgeous and would go very well with Billy imo.

For MNs, I would drop Amber/Amberlynn from consideration. The others are all very nice. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I would avoid Effie -- 'F-ing' would be the first thing to my mind Sad.

For boys,

Finn
Isaac (Zac)
Joseph (Joe/ Joey)
Thomas (Tom)
John (Johnny)
Samuel (Sam)
Gabriel (Gabe)

jem21 · 19/11/2010 22:46

tess, betty and kitty are lovely names also really like madeline and grace.boys names that spring to mind through my time working in childcare are:
arlo
otto
freddie
frankie
loik (not sure on correct spelling but pronounced low-ick)
llewelyn
remo
harrison
spencer
jasper
dylan

i could go on and on!

Secretwishescometrue · 21/11/2010 12:16

I really like Sadie Grace or Amber Elizabeth :) for your boy do you like long names you'll use a nn on or short names? Really like kit if its short for Christopher or Christian but for me I think its just a bit too short as a full name iykwim...

onimolap · 21/11/2010 12:21

I think Amberleigh Rose would be lovely.

For a boy, how about Bertie (Robert, Gilbert, Cuthbert) or Freddie (Frederick or Alfred)?

meg89 · 21/11/2010 18:07

thanks for replies everyone! Like quite a few of the combinations for girls names that have been suggested,so just going to be a case of choosing.. So difficult! I no il have to see the baby first before i can decide for definate anyway.. Poor billy didnt have a name for a week! Definately going to struggle more with boys, still not sure, and im not as brave with boys names for some reason! Like freddie but have a friend with a freddie similar age as my ds,same prob with franky.. Bertie is quite sweet actually!! Just really finding it hard to find something i really love!

and yes thats what i thought with kit.. I do like it,and christopher is my Dps name so quite nice is that respect, but do agree its maybe more of a nickname. Wondering now whether we should have registered our ds as william rather than billy now(although billy is still what id have used) but feel now like i almost have to use a shortened form of a name rather than the full name if we have a another boy,or it might be a bit odd?? but most of the boys names i like are the quite traditional names,so not sure..
