How about Fiona or Phyllida?

Duffstuff · 13/11/2010 08:09

There is a Fenella at my nephews school. I think it is quite cute and nell is a gorgeous nn Smile

AlpinePony · 13/11/2010 08:20

Fab name - and imo, totally un-fussy - the complete opposite of the twee Daisy. She'll control worlds you know... Grin

It should be a pretty name but somehow isn't IMO. Sounds a bit like flannel. It's a slightly awkward word, somehow always makes me think of body parts - vaginas, frenulums, you know, those sorts of things.

Good nickname potential though.

jabberwocky · 13/11/2010 13:31

I thought of frenulum too!

lljkk · 13/11/2010 16:17

Fenella sounds like a type of pasta.
Or the name of a tiny bone in your inner ear.
My great-grandmother was Finetta (Fi or Netta for short). I think that's quite pretty. It's, I think, a made-up name out of an Italian romance novel that was popular in the mid 1850s.

Fennel · 13/11/2010 16:20

I like it. It also reminds me of the Fenella in the Enid Blyton book about the circus, but it's a nice name anyway.

But I like the name Fennel too Grin

LynetteScavo · 13/11/2010 16:23

No thanks.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/11/2010 16:24

I don't like Fenella that much. There are so many other pretty names around.

Bumperlicious · 13/11/2010 16:48

I like it but it is the name I use when I'm taking the piss out of waitrose parents!

taintedpaint · 13/11/2010 17:52

Oh I'm sorry, but I think it's a really ugly name. Daisy is very pretty though.

freerangeeggs · 13/11/2010 19:29

I think it's pretty. I actually like Fen as a nickname. It's definitely distinctive.

I really like the un-anglicised version, Fionnuala (fin-oola).

I've also seen Finola, but I'm not sure about that.

What other sort of names do you like? If we get an idea of your style we could make some more suggestions.

Komondor · 15/11/2010 14:21

I love the name. Rather posh.

Hedwig3 · 15/11/2010 14:22

Made me think fudge but... I love fudge! Smile

snowwombat · 15/11/2010 15:13

Love it! On my short list too. Not a fan of Daisy.

nannynobnobs · 15/11/2010 15:17

I like it, but then I am a JC fan...

phonix · 15/11/2010 18:53

DS shares a coatpeg with a Fenella in his nursery class. When I first saw the name I thought it was awful, know it's silly but it reminds me of fennel....3 months down the line, I still don't like the name I'm afraid Sad

MamaRhys · 01/04/2011 23:21

Fenella Fielding : actress.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fenella_Fielding
damn gorgeous voice, according to my hubby!
Uncommon = no duplicates in school year group ;)

Prinpo · 02/04/2011 00:00

DD1 has a friend at school called this and, although she is the loveliest little girl, I still don't like the name. She gets called Fruitella Hmm and Ella.

notanumber · 02/04/2011 00:26

How do you pronounce it? s it Fuh-nella or Fennel-ah?

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 02/04/2011 00:46

I think of Fenella Fudge - is she really called Fenella Fudge???!!!

DuchessofKirkcaldy · 02/04/2011 04:04

Mr Galliano's Circus......God, I loved that book as a child.
Not sure about the name Fenella though. Could be a grower!

catinboots · 02/04/2011 05:48

I like it.

Or how about Romilly?

Hedwig3 · 02/04/2011 09:06

I was going to say no no no but...

Chorlton And The Wheelies was my fave and I have it on dvd Grin Blush

That makes suddenly like it! Fickle? Maybe.

Off for my blue rinse now.
