Evie, Esme or Eliana?

We know we are expecting a little girl in March and (think) we have got it down to these three; Evie, Esme and Eliana.

The surname is Ludlow and middle name will be Gwendoline.

Any thoughts?

Evie sounds like an abbreviation/nickname

Esme is OK but a bit ugly

Eliana is strange, what about Eleanor?

monkeymoomoo · 03/11/2010 11:18

Evie Gwendoline Ludlow is lovely - Evie is my DDs name. It is hugely popular though - every other baby girl round here seems to be called Evie.

If the popularity thing doesn't bother you then it's a great choice. It regularly gets a slating for being too popular in this forum though so be prepared!

Sarsaparilllla · 03/11/2010 11:25

I love Esme, it's on my list :)

DandyDan · 03/11/2010 11:30

With Eliana you are repeating elements of that name in Gwendoline: "eline". So that's less attractive.

Esme is a pretty name, and Evie too.

OkieCokie · 03/11/2010 11:36

Have you considered the pronunciation of Esme? Some pronounce it Es-me and some Es-may. I considered this name for some time preferring the Es-me version but as many will pronounce Es-may it put me off.

I like Evie too.

KERALA1 · 03/11/2010 13:30

I really like Esme.

Evie is crazily popular seriously dont do it. One third of the girls in DD's class (age 6) are named some variant of Eve.

Eliana sounds abit made up to me and she will end up Ellie another mega popular name.

fedupofnamechanging · 03/11/2010 14:51

According to the latest stats, Evie has gone up 157 places to no 10, so beware of that when you choose.

That said, my DD is called Evangeline, nn Evie, so if you love Evie perhaps consider a name that can be abreviated so you have options.

I also like Esme, although this too is increasing in popularity, possibly due to Twilight character.

Eliana does sound made up and, as said, will be called Ellie so you need to consider whether you would mind that.

WestYorkshirePudding · 03/11/2010 15:05

Agree with kerala, Evie and Ellie are ridiulously popular.

Esme is lovely though and I only know of one little girl of that name (3 yrs old)

KenDoddsDadsDogHatesFireworks · 03/11/2010 15:18

Esme is gorgeous. Also like Eliana, haven't heard it before and it's very pretty.

mathanxiety · 03/11/2010 16:24

Esme Gwendoline is gorgeous imo.

Eliana Gwendoline is a bit of a mouthful plus Ellie is short for every second girl out there under 12, and Evie is a nn to me, not a full name, plus very, very popular, and short for names like Evangeline, Evelyn.

Komondor · 04/11/2010 13:34

Esme is my favourite of your choices.

I love Evangeline Ludlow, Emmeline Ludlow, Teleri (Tel-air-ee) Ludlow, and Gwendoline Ludlow.

Faaamily · 04/11/2010 13:37

Eliana isn't made up. It's Hebrew, and quite popular in Israel (pronounced Ell-ee-arn-a).

Evie Gwendoine is nicest, though, imo.

Don't like Esme at all. Esther?

reddaisy · 04/11/2010 13:41

Love Esme. And it was what my mum wanted to name me. Unfortunately dad didn't agree so I got lumbered with a very popular 80s name instead.

How about Elodie? I LOVE that name but DH doesn't like it.

lilly13 · 04/11/2010 15:24

Love Eliana

Ineedsomesleep · 04/11/2010 17:24

Please not Evie, I know about 3 billion.

effymeffy · 04/11/2010 23:56

I have an Esme so i am biased, but imo getting wayyy too popular unfortunatly (several at local school) so if thats a problem for you i'd avoid it, but gorgeous name though :o Love Evie too

Linnet · 05/11/2010 00:01

Esme, I think it's a beautiful name.

Ineedsomesleep · 05/11/2010 13:12

If you like the Ee sound can I suggest Elsa, Elizabeth or Elspeth?

deaddei · 05/11/2010 13:15

I have an Evie but she is 14, and it wasn't as popular then.
Esme is lovely.

FindingGuysMojo · 05/11/2010 13:18

I like Esme v much. I dislike Evie v much & it's very overdone at the mo. Never heard of Eliana before.

Ineedsomesleep · 05/11/2010 14:02

Elise?

sparkle1977 · 05/11/2010 16:34

I love Esme, it was one of my choices if I had a DD.

Evie is OK, prefer Eva though or even Ava.

dexifehatz · 05/11/2010 21:35

Evie is lovely! even though its popular its still beautiful :)

Iwishiwasalive · 05/11/2010 22:48

Esme or how about Eva??

Beamur · 05/11/2010 22:53

Esme is my favourite out of your choices.
