Just wondering what people think about Thomasina. I really like the name but I do wonder if people would think that we'd wanted a boy.

I think it is lovely. What nickname would you use?

cece · 29/10/2010 19:05

I know a 7 year old one and it has definitely grown on me. So yes I like it.

thefurryone · 29/10/2010 19:08

Hadn't really thought about a nn still at the wondering what might be nice stage, but I suppose it would end up being shortened as it is a bit of a mouthful.

I really love it - i think it is much nicer than Thomas too.
I like a lot of the boys to girls names (Thomasina, Augusta, Ernestine, Abertine, Roberta etc), and I think they are far nicer than the boys names.
I think Tommie is pretty cool for a young girl and teenager too.

Littlewhitethings · 29/10/2010 19:26

It's not for me (sorry) - too clunky and no great nn, I don't think Tommie is that great a nn. Although it is quirky and has charm, it's definitely a "love it or hate it" name.

rachel1970 · 29/10/2010 19:46

I think Tommie is cute for a girl. There are loads of female Charlies (Charlottes) and Georgies (Georginas) around and I think Tommie is actually cuter for girl.

Ineedsomesleep · 29/10/2010 19:49

Love the name and I wouldn't think you had wanted a boy [hsmile]

Never met one, the only one I've heard of is the one from Masterchef. Don't like the nn Tommie much though, but then I don't like Tommy for a boy either.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 29/10/2010 19:52

It's a no no from me - it's something that was quite common round these here parts some years ago, and has now become very unpopular. There are quite a few Thomasinas, Jamesinas, Robertas etc as a result, and they are usually around the same age.

weepootle · 29/10/2010 19:52

It's just awful, I cannot bear boys names with a ina/ia/ietta on the end to make it feminine - it does not work. Harriet is the exception, it's lovely.

Bumperlicious · 29/10/2010 19:57

I like it

Love it
is one of our family names from way back
as well as Alexandrina

LetThereBeRock · 29/10/2010 20:42

Awful

badcoverversion · 29/10/2010 21:21

Not keen on it if I'm honest.
Sorry Blush

Rhubarbgarden · 29/10/2010 21:38

Love it. It does make me think of the cat though.

mathanxiety · 30/10/2010 05:20

Thomasina Tittlemouse.

But I like it more than any of the other boys-will-be-girls names for some funny reason.

Avocadoes · 30/10/2010 07:37

I love it.

Thomasina and Theodora are my two fav girls' names right now. I would probably go for Theodora at a push because it has better nicknames (Thea, Dora...).

Beegey · 30/10/2010 11:18

I really like it. I was very fond of it when expecting DD1 but a friend ruined it for me by saying it sounded like a Thoms during the week who became Thomasina at the weekends...

muminthemiddle · 30/10/2010 11:27

I don't like it.I know a adult Thomasina, named after her father Thomas and she changed her name to something else by deedpoll.

Psychommead · 30/10/2010 12:08

Dislike it. I know tons of names are derived from the male form, but this one is a step too far for me.

coldcomfortHeart · 30/10/2010 13:05

Too close to the male for me too. Knew a Jacobina once, that takes the prize I think!

5DollarShake · 30/10/2010 13:07

I wouldn't choose it for my own, but would probably think it was quite quirky (in a good way) if I heard it on someone else. [hsmile]

CharlieBoo · 30/10/2010 15:29

Awful awful awful, it would look exactly like you wanted a boy and I doubt in years to come your daughter would thank you for it.....

chandra · 30/10/2010 15:30

I'm sorry, I hate it.

GibbonWithAnAppleBobbingBibOn · 30/10/2010 15:33

Erm, no. Don't do it.
