I'm 35 weeks and we are still largely undecided on names (I'm sure I used to be decisive!). Anyway, here goes, please let me know what you think.

Boys
William or Albert? Our surname also begins with an A but does that really matter? William in at No8 in recent ONS list and Albert 162 - can't decide. Surname is two syllable beginning with A and fairly simple. other contenders are Edward/Daniel/Joseph

Girls
Like more girls names but keen to have a formal name and nothing too frilly/girly. Contenders are:

Annabel (Anna - going for Annabel to seperate it from our surname a bit which starts with an A)
Charlotte (Lotti)
Imogen
Hannah
Elizabeth (Tess/Bess as nn)

I like all the names except Albert.

BuntyPenfold · 28/10/2010 12:24

I like them all including Albert :) Al and Bertie both nice nn.

valiumskeleton · 28/10/2010 12:30

I like William and I love the nick name Bill/Billy.

Not crazy about Albert tbh! Bit Eastenders.. hmm.

Can I suggest Robbie/Robbert, Jonathan/Jonny, Richie/Richard, Marcus.

I really like Edward and Daniel but Joseph is a bit blah in comparison. It always ends up as Joe.

girls names.

I love Annabel and Lottie, both gorgeous.
I like Imogen but not enough to use it. Hannah I don't know. I prefer just Anna. the huh sound at the beginning ruins it for me. And there are millions of Hannahs. Fewer Annas.

Elizabeth I really like this one. It will be shortened, that's inevitable, but with such great nick names, who cares. JUST be certain you get to to choose the nn. Eliza, Lizzie, Libby, Beth all gorgeous. Not keen on Betty or Betsy. I love Lottie so I don't know why I disklike Betty.

Do you liek Juliet? Juliet goes well with Charlotte, Annabel and Elizabeth.

All good names on your list except for Albert. Actually, is Albert a piercing down there

I'd rank your boys' names:

-Daniel
-Edward
-Albert
-William
-Joseph

Think Albert is ok with an A surname as long as it doesn't start with "Al"

Daniel is a great name and not as "on trend" as Albert, so may date better.

I'd rank your girls' names:

-Elizabeth
-Charlotte
-Imogen
-Annabel
-Hannah

I love Charlotte, Imogen and Elizabeth. Would pick Charlotte or Elizabeth due to better nn possibilities.

Annabel is a bit frilly/girly to me
Hannah is a bit frumpy sounding to me

BuntyPenfold · 28/10/2010 12:36

Grin valium
that has put me right off the name Albert!!

I take it back OP, don't call him Albert.

EmmieA · 28/10/2010 13:00

Hmmm, I had thought of the piercing issue but not for a while - yes, that might be an issue! Thanks all, any more opinions welcomed.

Boys - all except Albert
Girls - All except Annabel.

Ineedsomesleep · 28/10/2010 13:13

William - too popular for me
Albert - love, but not a fan of alliteration
Edward - love.
Daniel - not fond.
Joseph - again not keen.

Annabel - getting to popular.
Charlotte - see Annabel.
Imogen - not keen.
Hannah - love.
Elizabeth - love.

valiumskeleton · 28/10/2010 13:14

hannah is about a million times more popular than Hannabel!

RockBat · 28/10/2010 13:16

All your names are lovely except Charlotte which is so dull it sends me to sleep. Don't know many little Hannahs, only the one and she's four.

Ineedsomesleep · 28/10/2010 13:17

Oh Valium, you know how regional these things are, and anyway, I've never met a Hannabel, plenty of Annabels though [hgrin]

valiumskeleton · 28/10/2010 13:23

oh yes you're right. I think you get little pockets, micro worlds dykwim? Like there could be four Felixes in your own little micro world but it's not in the top 100.

Ineedsomesleep · 28/10/2010 13:25

Bit like Reuben, about a million of them in the next town but I've never heard of another.

Ineedsomesleep · 28/10/2010 13:26

Forgot to add its Evie and William in our town, but I've seen people post on here that they don't know one of either.

shimmerysilverghosty · 28/10/2010 13:28

Edward
Not Albert, it is my dogs name Grin.

Annabel
Hannah

missmiss · 28/10/2010 13:42

I love Albert. Daniel and Joseph are boring. So are Charlotte and Hannah.

Albert, William, Elizabeth and Annabel are all fab.
