My husband and I love the name Matilda but it seems its very popular at the moment, anybody else found this? I don't want there to be three other Matildas in her class at school!

I have a Mathilda. It's only in the 40s in the name lists. Ours is Tilda.

I picked it out as a child (I adored the book) and didn't care about popularity. It isn't ridiculously popular. Agree with the pp that all the Lily, Tilly type names make it seem popular. It's a good, strong, traditional name. I had a great, great aunt Mathilda.

We've applied for her school place recently. No other Matildas in the school, let alone her class or year. There are going to be 3 Evies though in a class of 10.

I have a Matilda, nn Tilly who is 5 and a bit. I don't know any other Matildas, and only one Tilly where we are (SE) so I think the perception of its popularity is perhaps greater than the reality....

Actually, I lie, I've just thought of a second Tilly...but there isn't another one in her class/year that I know of.

Two Matildas ( both shortened to Tilly) in my NCT group.
