Mary or Sally

Which do you prefer, Mary or Sally?
Which is more popular do you think?
I like how classic Mary is, but think Sally is cute and adorable on a child, but suits an adult too. Do not like Sarah (dh's ex!) so would just be Sally.

I lived Sally when I was little and called one of my dolls it. I think it's a bit meh now.

Mary is DD's middle name. :)

I love Mary but it is the name for fanjo in certain parts of the country!

YunoWhatYouDidLastSummer · 19/10/2010 14:08

Love Mary.

Wish we had called dd Mary. Or Susan.

Brilliant name.

Sally is meh.

Bue · 19/10/2010 14:10

Love love love Mary.

5DollarShake · 19/10/2010 20:31

Minnie may not be 'big' enough to transcend fanjo, but Mary definitely is!! Grin

atmywitssend · 19/10/2010 21:06

I know a 3 year old Mary, she's gorgeous!

zenon · 19/10/2010 21:32

Mary is a fantastic name.

Refreshing,cultured and sounds beautiful,Smile

Mary is to a name as Chanel is to a suit.Grin

Pared down, classic and everlasting.

Love Mary.

flopsy1974 · 19/10/2010 21:41

Mary is a lovley name.

smother · 19/10/2010 22:29

agree with all the positive comments about Mary above - definitely Mary, it's a wonderful name.

MadameCastafiore · 19/10/2010 22:35

Both lack imagination!

MadameCastafiore · 19/10/2010 22:35

Like being called Peter or Brian or Nigel IMO but Just MO.

piscesmoon · 19/10/2010 22:47

I know a 5 yr old Mary and it is so unusual these days that it sounds quite exotic. I think it is lovely. I don't like Sally.

nappyaddict · 19/10/2010 23:31

Sally, Mary is definitely the more popular of the two.

tummytickler · 20/10/2010 08:34

Ok, other dd's are Iris and Pearl and 2 boys have unusual OT names, so which would fit better with those? (I guess i should have said the other dc's names in op Blush, sorry)

Both are great and both go with the other(lovely) names!

If pushed I'd go with Sally - sounds more fun Smile

Pasiphae · 20/10/2010 13:43

Sally, fun classic.
Mary, safe(quite boring) classic.

piscesmoon · 20/10/2010 17:17

Mary isn't boring these days- there just are not any in the primary school. I have come across only two in quite a few years of supply teaching in a variety of schools.

JustKeepSwimming · 20/10/2010 18:31

I think that both go with Iris & Pearl but I still tend towards Mary really :)

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 20/10/2010 19:35

I posted earlier to say that I'd have a hard time choosing between the two and I would still, but given your other DDs' names, I think Mary might 'go' better than Sally.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 20/10/2010 19:36

But then, you're naming an individual, not one of a group of 3... so does it matter? Oh, I don't know!
