Cassie/Cassandra

DH suggested this name yesterday.

I sort of like it but am not sure. I think I have negative associations due to a person that I used to know.

Is there another longer name, other than Cassandra that can be shortened to Cassie?

What does everyone think of Cassie/Cassandra?

I know, but people always associate it with the word arachnid Hmm

I love it, but could never convince DH.

Notyetamummy, you have scarily similar taste to my DH! I am the one in our relationship who likes the plain names, but he is slowly winning me around...particularly to Cassandra or Aurelia. He also really likes Artemis, so you might too? Smile

hubblybubblytoilntrouble · 13/10/2010 22:15

Cassandra was Jane Austen's sister. I love it and Cassie. We picked it for DC1 but he was a boy.

Notyetamummy · 14/10/2010 00:06

Ooo, Artemis s lovely! You could call him Artie for short. I'll suggest it DH, but I bet he'll say no. Do you want to swap MyThumbs? Wink

Love Artemis - she was a total kickass as far as goddesses are concerned.

Also Persephone is lovely

And Ariadne - even though I am terrified of spiders (must be the "ari" bit, something to do with weaving or thread I guess), Ari for short.

And Cassandra!

These are all great names, unusual but sooo old.

What about Athena, Hero, Antigone, Atalanta, Sappho?

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 14/10/2010 18:50

It's a girls name Notyetamummy Smile but it does sound quite masculine doesn't it?? The trouble is, we've already agreed on a pretty unusual middle name, and I think 2 unusual names might amount to child cruelty! I think we should swap. I bet your DH would let me have Amelia, or Millicent, or Imogen.

Sunlightdances · 15/10/2010 15:00

@EvilAnts

Perhaps not Sappho unless you're certain she'll become a lesbian...

Notyetamummy · 15/10/2010 23:47

My DH loves Amelia - it's what he really really wants! I do like it but think it's a bit popular.

Oops, I thought it was a boys name Blush Still sounds nice as a girls name though - I'll have to read that story.

Do you mind me asking what the weird middle name that you've chosen is MyThumbs?

I know a Sappho who isn't a lesbian, but agree there are strong lesbian connotations :)

She seems to pull it off but then she is very cool (and her brother is called Dorian...)

AmelieMay · 16/10/2010 23:50

what about Aurora or Tessa? Tessie for short.

BelligerentGhoul · 16/10/2010 23:51

I know a little Delphi and have always thought that is quite pretty.

AmelieMay · 16/10/2010 23:52

also ... Clementine, Clemency, Josephine, Fearne, Serephine, Florence

EvilAntsAndMiasmas · 17/10/2010 00:48

Boy or girl BG? Always loved that name...

maktaitai · 17/10/2010 00:54

Cassie/Cassia is glorious.

milanomum · 17/10/2010 09:37

I like Cassia but pronounced 'KA-see-a' not 'ka-SEE-a'
I also love Aurelia (aw-rey-lee-ah)(italian) and Aurelie (oh-rey-lee) (french)

maxiewaxie · 17/10/2010 11:51

My daughter is Charis but usually called Cassie.

BelligerentGhoul · 17/10/2010 18:33

The Delphi I know is a girl - never heard of it for a boy and think it wouldn't work as a boys' name.

Mumcentreplus · 17/10/2010 18:46

I like Cassie..Cassia..Charis...

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 17/10/2010 18:57

Notyetamummy don't want to make it searchable, because I think its probably very unusual, but its the first name here

She was pretty kick ass too! I think it would sound lovely with Amelia as a first name Grin

zozzle · 17/10/2010 19:14

I knew a Cassia when I was young - love it!

proudfoot · 17/10/2010 19:20

I know a Cassia. Much prettier and simpler than Cassandra IMO

nannynobnobs · 17/10/2010 19:25

My cousin is a Cassiah (long I) and has always been called Cassie.
