No it's so much nicer than Liz

brittan76 · 11/10/2010 13:03

Elizabeth is far nicer and more classic than Evie/Eva.

Elizabeth will never date.

Rockbird · 11/10/2010 13:06

I don't think Eva will date. I know a few Evie, Evelyn and Ava but no Eva, except the one I went to school with.

bytheMoonlight · 11/10/2010 13:09

I do actually like Elizabeth - but every adult Elizabeth I've known has been called Liz, no matter if she likes it or not.

That's enough to make me stay well away from Elizabeth.

I have the same problem with Florence/Flo.

I think any name that becomes very 'fashionable' will inevitably fall out of fashion and therefore feel 'dated'.

And imo Eve/Evie/Eva are indeed very fashionable at the moment. As is Amelie/Emily/Milly/Tilly imo.

wildspinning · 11/10/2010 20:11

There are very few Elizabeths under the age of 20, so in that respect it is dated, despite being a classic name.

And I agree that pretty much no adult Elizabeths go by their full, four-syllable name!

Eva is lovely. If you love it, use it!

pregnantpause · 11/10/2010 21:06

I do love it, and having thought about it now for days, well months, the only argument against it seem to be that its popular. But avoiding popularity has not been high in my naming criteria.

I will go for either Eva Niclole or Eva Aurelia. Thanks again.

Beveridge only just read your post.

She was about 12 months when we changed it officially to Eva, but before that had started using Ariana with her as well. It took a few months before we fully remembered to keep calling her Ariana, so for a while she was both! But she responded to both and never seemed confused!

She is now Ana, most of the time, and Ariana when I'm cross! She knows her name and recognises it when she sees it - is nearly 2 now, so obviously hasn't caused any probs. She knows the name Eva as well as I kept her door letters spelling Eva and have them in a pretty beaded bag in her room, which she likes to play with.

I am very glad we made the switch. Although I don't like Ariana quite as much as Eva, I am happier with her having a slightly more unusual name and it actually really suits her.

OP - both Eva Nicole and Eva Aurelia are lovely; the second is my fave!

CanNeverDecide · 20/10/2010 20:01

D'oh, that's supposed to say changed it officially to Ariana.

Balletpink · 20/10/2010 20:19

I do know two Elizabeth's who are never known as Liz. They are both always known as Elizabeth and always have been! Also the nn Liz isn't the only one... there's Libby, and Beth.

I love Aurelia, it's so beautiful. I also love Amelie. I like Eva too, but it seems so.. short and unfinished. Having been given a short name myself, I always wanted something more elegant, so I am biased in favour of long, elegant names! Smile

emptyshell · 21/10/2010 15:26

I'd just like to state here and now that my middle name was Eve BEFORE it got massively trendy (was about 30 years too early) :P

Incidentally - the reasoning behind it was that my nan was an Eva, and I was the first girl as in the Adam and Eve sense. I've also got a three letter first name as well... made learning to write my name at school a doddle for a lazy nowt like me :D

WakyWally · 07/05/2025 18:31

If id have had daughters i likely would have chosen Eva Jane and Erin Kate. 🙂🙂

Gosh I've met quite a few Evas and it's such a nothing name. Aurelia does not fit it and is just an overall twee name. I don't know, sorry, I don't like these names.
