Wwyd - baby boy name

Ok opinions wanted please. I'm 37 weeks and have settled on a girls name but not a boys name. We have two boys names in mind which I like equally, my husband has a slight preference for one of them but said I can make the final decision. The problem is ds1 loves the other name and will not call the baby anything else (he is 4). So the question is what would you do? Go with your husbands favourite or your Childs favourite?

Depends on the names...
If one liked 'Daniel' and one liked 'Fuzzyface' it would be an obvious choice.
Why not wait until the child is born? You may have gone off a name, or he may look like one name and not the other.

Did anyone else read this as asking for an opinion on the name Wwyd (perhaps a classic Welsh name???)

I think the father of the child has slightly more say in the matter than a four year old!

If I had let my DS1 name DS2 he would have been called Ben10 or something.

Agree with LLW.

Apart from anything else, your child is likely to ask in the future how his name was chosen, and if you reply that it was picked by his big brother, he may not take kindly to that, depending on how much he likes the name (and his brother!)

Parents should have the choice over other family members I'd say.

Your husband should have more say than your child.

If parents reguarly allowed their children to choose the name of their siblings, there'd be an awful lot of adults going around called Pingu or Spongebob.

now I know that it's a toss-up between 2 you like, I don't see the harm in your DS chosing it.

Batteryhuman - yes, I did - was just about to come on and go "No way, you couldn't do that to your child!!" but it's a lot less interesting...

When my sibs were born, I was given a say in the matter - not the final say, but they did get called names that I liked. Probably because the names I chose fit in with my parents' likes too.

If both names are liked, why not call the baby both names? one for a first, one for a second name. Then it won't matter if your DS refuses to call the baby by the name your DH prefers.

I have a friend whose niece has 3 different names and she has no problem dealing with it. :)

My DS (nearly 4) is called Leo and wants his new sibling to be called Peo! I don't think you can let the 4 year hold too much sway.

Let your DH decide.
If I went with my dc's choice, the baby will end up being called Dora or Smudge. Need I say more?
(DH and I haven't told our dc's our chosen names, it will be a surprise on the day)

Battery - yes, I did.

When pg with no. 3 my other two wanted to call him/her either Potato or Loveheart.

Needless to say my and DH's idea won. Well, mine won actually. .

I chose my sisters name, she is called strawberry shortcake. Not really, she is called julie, after one of my dolls. Luckily she wasn't named after my other doll karen as there were loads of karens in our school.

I'd say if dp doesn't object then use ds's choice. It'd be a nice way to make him feel involved.

the op's choice is between (for example) George and Peter, both of which she likes.
DH likes Peter best and DS likes George best.

Both names are good names, and in this instance, I think it's better to go with DS's choice, because it does make it feel to him like he's chosen the name - it's not like saying "what do you want for dinner?" and worrying he'll say "ice cream and bogeys"; it's like saying "do you want sweetcorn or peas?" and him choosing sweetcorn.

I know a family who let DD1 choose DD2s name. Maisy Dora (I'm not joking...) is now about 10.

I think they might be thiking of Peppa Muck Scoop for the arrival of DS1.

ACtually I think Lola has it - if your DS is allowed to name the baby his favourite name, then he will feel more attached and involved, it will be his baby as well because he got to name it - that is a very good reason to go with his name choice.

Thanks everyone for your help. Just to clarify, we are not letting our ds give the baby the name of his choice simply make a decision between the two names we have agreed on.
Think we are going to let him decide in the hope it makes him feel more involved in everything.
