Sonnet

Hi there,

We are due to have baby any day soon. Love the name Sonnet - just wondering what others thought? Taking a risk at being put off, I know, which probably isn't such a good idea at such a late stage.

We also need two other middle names (all other children have three names and so I want to do the same).

Other names we like to fit in around Sonnet are:

Aurora
Serenity
Willow
Indigo
Arizona
Luna
Blossom
Grace
Hope
Marie
Eve
Rain

Wondering what people think of the name Sonnet and whether anyone can help me think of two other names to go with it that sound nice - either from the above or other suggestions. Really appreciate everyone's help on here. Thank you.

"be prepared for people to think that your family is to be avoided."

Hmm

This is actually a great reason to give your child an unusual name!

My DS has a (I think very beautiful) unusual name.

If there are actually people in this world who would avoid us purely because of DS's name than I'm glad they're doing us a favour and staying away from us! I'd really rather not waste my time on such people (if they really exist).

DetectivePotato · 01/10/2010 18:46

How is it narrowmindedness to think a name is daft? It just means we don't like it. We don't have to, just like people won't like my DS's 'boring' name.

othersideofchannel · 01/10/2010 18:54

Not liking a particular name is ok, but it is this comment that I described as narrow minded:

"be prepared for people to think that your family is to be avoided.".

Who doesn't find this narrow minded?

Rockbird · 01/10/2010 18:56

That works fine if it's a name DP but plucking a word out of the Oxford English and landing it on your child is a different story.

DetectivePotato · 01/10/2010 19:12

othersideofhtechannel ok, I see what you mean now. I thought you just meant people who didn't like unusual names were being narrow minded. Sorry.

Rockbird I agree totally!! I hate this 'thing' of giving children ridiculous 'names' because the parents think it sounds cute/cool/different whatever. I feel sorry for the children who have to grow up saddled with these names. I'm not just talking about this thread btw but childrens names in general.

GladioliBuckets · 01/10/2010 19:17

Prefer Linnet.

Rockbird · 01/10/2010 19:18

DP I'm sorry, I read your post wrong, I thought you were saying it was narrowminded to think a name is daft! Blush

DetectivePotato · 01/10/2010 19:19

No problem. Smile

thebrightside · 01/10/2010 19:24

Have a friend called Aura which I think is beautiful, far nicer than Aurora.

BelligerentGhoul · 01/10/2010 19:28

Sorry but I think it sounds silly. Then again, it's probably better than Rain, which is just awful imvho.

GladioliBuckets · 01/10/2010 20:21

PMSL, just actually looked at the Beauden thread. Had assumed it was a MN pisstake what with the Boden banner ads etc. Sonnet not so bad compared to BeaudenSmile.

arizonagirl · 01/10/2010 23:17

GladioliBuckets - no, wasn't a pisstake. I just loved that name - taught a gorgeous boy once called Beauden and that was about 15 years ago. But after all the negative feedback I have to realise it isn't going to work. If there were at least some people who liked it I would have been convinced but I think the score was about 100 to 1. Not good. So it is out and I need to get my skates on.

Still love Sonnet and that one I won't change my mind on Smile

Thanks for the help.

I dont know how old this thread is but shame on everyone who insulted Sonnet as a name choice. Especially the person who said point blank "Sonnet is not a name". Grace was not a name until someone decided to make it one. These people cant see past the tip of their nose. First of all, Sonnet means little song, which is beautiful as a little girls name. My daughter's name is Sonnet, I came up with it myself and didnt realize there were other people naming their kids Sonnet. Pleasent surprise! Also, as someone with a daughter named Sonnet, a lot of people think Im saying Sonic and thats annoying. But other than that, everyone tells me its beautiful. Even people who contort their face a bit when I tell them say "well that's unique, how did you come up with that?". Ive been surprised at how many people don't know what a sonnet is! But its a beautiful name and new names are part of societal evolution and all of the names that are currently used are a product of it. SO quit being so closed minded people. Geez

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/01/2017 15:27

Sonnet Willow Grace
Sonnet Marie Hope
Sonnet Aurora Eve
Sonnet Blossom Rain
Sonnet Arizona Grace
Sonnet Indigo Luna
Sonnet Luna Grace

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/01/2017 15:27

Ooh zombie

RortyCrankle · 18/01/2017 18:45

Somewhat irrelevant since the child will be 7 this year Hmm

GinIsIn · 18/01/2017 18:51

When I saw this was a zombie I was so hoping for an update that said the OP had gone with 'Iambic Pentameter' as a name....

MarmiteDoesYouGood · 18/01/2017 19:33

I dont know how old this thread is

It's quite easy to look at the date on each post and see that the thread is 6 and a half years old. So you're little rant was super pointless.

MarmiteDoesYouGood · 18/01/2017 19:36

It's so weird when parents of children with unusual names bump ancient threads to rant at people who have insulted the name and get all defensive. Talk about insecure. Why are you googling your kid's name anyway?

pizzaparty · 18/01/2017 19:45

I like everything on your list except Sonnet (rhymes with bonnet)
