No, no, no. I'm sorry but your dh is right. They sound like you want to sound rather dashing and as if you may zip off to a polo match at any moment. Sorry but no.

Hector is brilliant. So is Lucas.

BokinMammy · 28/09/2010 19:52

I agree with ur dh ... altough i was tinkn of noah myself ... love the name :)

Quattrocento · 28/09/2010 19:58

Hector is not Arthurian, it is Greek

Like Lysander

lifeinlimbo · 28/09/2010 20:08

Oooh I like Lysander, and Orlando.

MsHighwater · 28/09/2010 20:11

Listen to your dh.

Totallyfloaty35 · 28/09/2010 20:15

Hector is a dogs name in this house so def out of the running.
I like Finley,Issac, Noah,Louis and Orlando.
I shall not tell Dh you all agree with him in regard to my other faves as he will be annoyingly smug about it Grin

Lysander is DS2s middle name, I love it. Note though that it's his middle name. As much as I love classical Greek names (and DCs are half Greek Cypriot, so they were chosen for a reason) I wouldn't use this one as first name.

IsThatTheTime · 28/09/2010 20:22

Try throwing Ptolemy at him, all of a sudden Orlando's gonna seem fairly run of the mill. For me though it fails the all-important "would I be embarrassed to shout it in the playground" test.

minipie · 28/09/2010 20:25

Would you really want to be a 7 year old boy called Lysander or Gawain? Honestly?

Finlay, Louis and Isaac are much better.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 28/09/2010 20:26

Your dh is a man of good sense.

meadowlarks · 28/09/2010 21:20

I know a Lysander, he's 18 and goes to private school. He has 5 middle names and was born in Hong Kong. That is all.

I've written vast essays on Gawain and the Green Knight but considering that it took me a good lot of research to figure out how it's pronounced (which is pretty ugly anyway), I think others would struggle.

Rafe. Rape. Rafe. Rape.

Noah and Orlando are nice but twee.

Totallyfloaty35 · 28/09/2010 21:32

Yes but boys names are all so samey these days i know loads of boys called Archie, Oliver,Jack,Freddie etc.I do like those names but DD3 has 3 friends called Archie,it can get very complicated.

joydivisionovengloves · 29/09/2010 16:54

I'm with your DH too I'm afraid. Your child will not thank you for choosing any of those!

Um, I think they are a bit OTT although Rafe not so much. I love Noah, but then my DS2 is Noah so I would do :)

Lonnie · 03/10/2010 20:25

Rafe is ok not massively keen on the others love Noah but yes popular

allyfe · 04/10/2010 13:03

I actually like Lysander, but I must be honest, I'm not sure I would actually name a child that. If you wanted to have xander as a nickname, then you could perhaps get away with it but it is a very flouncy name, and I think it might be hard for a lot of boys to live with.

I don't like Rafe AT ALL or Gawain.

Boys names are so hard though. My OH and I have a rubbish book of boys names and 80% are surnames.

KittyKuddle · 07/12/2010 08:17

My son's name is Rafe and he is a darling I get compliments all the time.

I am expecting baby number 2 and thought about Lysander (to stick with play's theme). but we have chickened out.

Not keen on Gawain.
